Low income families in Onondaga County New York can contact Catholic Charities for information, referrals, and direct financial assistance, transportation, housing and more. Various emergency services are administered to the working poor, seniors, and low income. Whether free food or meals in Onondaga County, help moving, or something else, a focus of the Catholic Charity assistance programs is on meeting housing, clothing, and food/nutrition needs.

As with any program, there are a number of qualifications that need to be met by applicants. Any assistance is limited to Onondaga County and Syracuse families. People will need to prove their need for help, and have documentation of their crisis. Income limits are in place, and people can only use the Catholic Charity emergency financial assistance programs a limited number of times. For example, people can learn about utility and heating bill assistance programs (such as HEAP in NY), rental assistance from section 8 vouchers and homeless prevention, and much more. Catholic Charities may be able to connect people of all backgrounds and religions with other resources and non-profits across the region.

Housing programs - rent or moving help

Relocation Assistance is offered, with priority given to Vulnerable Individuals and Families and Homeless. For example, single parents, senior citizens, disabled, and others who are at risk are the primary beneficiaries. Families and individuals who are in danger of becoming homeless or who are currently homeless may benefit. Catholic Charities will work with families and individuals throughout the city of Syracuse, as well as with men at the Oxford Street Inn. Veterans can also get help. One of the main programs is SSVF - or supportive services for veteran families. There are also HUD VASH programs to help veterans pay their rent or mortgages, give motel vouchers, and provide other assistance. Catholic Charity assistance for seniors and the elderly in Onondaga County

Transportation Services are offered to seniors. The charity will partner with other businesses and non-profits, such as Area North Transportation Services (ANTS), and provide transportation services and aid to elderly and seniors who live in areas such as the Town of Salina and the Town of Clay. Seniors may request rides to shopping, medical facilities, doctor appointments and also senior nutrition sites.

 

 

 

 

The Representative Payee Program will help seniors understand and manage their personal finances. Volunteers and specialists can advise senior on financial matters, provide budgeting advice, refer them to debt and credit counselors. Catholic Charities works with Social Security to screen the service to ensure their is no fraud. The charity will also help them the elderly or disabled in Onondaga County their bills and keep on track with their finances.
