Dozens of churches in Suffolk County New York help the poor and families that are struggling. They often combine resources together as part of programs such as God's Provision or a Social Ministry. Any type of financial assistance for expenses such as utility bills, transportation, or rent is available for members of the local parish boundaries or congregation.

A faith based charity organization will only help when all other options that the client has have failed. There is also a coordinator available at locations including Our Lady Of Perpetual Church and their service known as Help Parish Outreach. The coordinate is a source of information, and advise is given in Spanish, English, and other languages. What may be offered is as follows.

Financial help from churches in Suffolk County

Housing payment programs – When homelessness is imminent, a social ministry at a parish in Suffolk County New York may help with rent payments, mortgage costs, or a security deposit for a new home.

It focuses on keeping heat and lights on, and the volunteers can also refer clients to other utility bill assistance programs in New York.

Free basic needs around food and medical

Transportation – With the need for money to pay for commuting costs, a church may give either a free bus pass, fill a tank of gasoline, or help pay for a train ticket for employment needs.

Free tangible resources – Families living in poverty can be given clothes, furniture, appliances, kitchen utensils, and other goods. It can help an immigrant establishing a home, or someone starting a new. There are many free furniture banks from churches.

Gods's Provision is the name of an assistance program that is operated from many sites in Suffolk County. Churches organize resources for the working poor. The assistance is mostly in the form of a food pantry that operate in 2 hour windows of time. However other resources may be given too, such as some hygiene items or the volunteer may direct the client to emergency financial programs for housing or other costs. Church operates social service programs

Cultural programs – These range from spiritual guidance from First Presbyterian Church Of Sag Harbor (address 44 Union Street,  Sag Harbor, NY 11963, phone (631)725-0894) to more field trips, arts and crafts, and more. Specialty programs – This is done in an effort to meet each applicant's needs. As the assistance needed for a senior is much different that what an immigrant or single parent may need. Our Lady Of Perpetual  (10 S. Referrals are often given from the volunteers at a parish. There are staff at churches that help families that live within the area supported by the parish. People can learn about Department of Social Services benefits, such as HEAP for paying heating bills, section 8 rent vouchers or food stamps. DSS in Suffolk County also can be a place to learn about transportation programs, government services, and senior programs.
