St. Joseph County free food, clothes, furniture and Christmas help
There are many free items provided by St. Vincent de Paul Society in South Bend area. The main one is the Free Food Pantry as well as the Bread basket. The items that fill the food bank are donated. They can come from individuals, surplus items from a restaurant, and grocery stores as well as St. Joseph County. In general, up to a 5 day supply of groceries is passed out, and it will account for each household member. So if the size of the household is 4 individuals, then this could be equivalent to dozens of meals.
Homeless individuals are given food or free groceries as well, but this is generally a free hot meal from the soup kitchen. They are generally not given a box of food from St. Vincent pantry, as they would not usually have a place to keep the groceries. So the assistance given to them is in the form of a hot breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. This is available any time they request it.
Both families, the homeless, and other clients are given more than just groceries. There may be toiletry kits with soup or detergent, free cleaning products for the home or body, and even pet food when available.
