The place to turn to for help in Corunna and Shiawassee County Michigan is the Capital Area Community Services. They may be able to help with rent, prevent foreclosure or evictions, offer utility and heating bill assistance, and other services. Learn more below.

Rent and mortgage assistance programs. If you apply and are accepted into the program, renters or homeowners will also need to go through an assessment of household spending habits. The program will provide short term help at the same time as ensuring people have the skills and tools to stay on their feet and remain in their home over the long term. So the support from CACS can include emergency funds for a security deposit or a partial rent payment to stop an eviction. Counselors will help people develop the skills to prioritize spending to meet basic needs and stabilize the family over the long term.

Financial aid for paying utility and heating bills. The non-profit agency will provide direct payment assistance and cash grants for home heating bill and energy assistance. People who apply and are accepted will be required to participate in an Energy Smart Workshop prior to payment to the service provider, so this will ensure people use energy wisely. Case managers from the non-profit are often up to date on all of the assistance programs that are offered for paying utility and cooling bills, including LIHEAP and other payment plans.
