Assistance from Seattle and King County Salvation Army.

Qualified low income families and individuals in the Seattle and King County Washington region may be able to qualify for financial assistance from the Salvation Army. All resources are limited, strict eligibility guidelines are in place, and much of the rent, utility bill, food or Christmas assistance provided requires ongoing case management and social services.

Financial Assistance programs

Resources can help with housing needs, with a focus on preventing homelessness in the King County Washington area. Some of the services offered by the Salvation Army can include eviction prevention, move-in and security deposit assistance, limited rent help, and also utility bill assistances. Counseling services are provided at the same time. Centers are also available for services such as prayer and general guidance. Any type of assistance paid out is by appointment only, and may require an interview process.

Basic needs can be met in a crisis. The Salvation Army in Seattle strives to help people pay for living expenses and meet their basic needs. They try to help all who come seeking help, regardless of religion or background, provided qualifications are met. Taking immediate care of the basic needs of clothing, food, housing, shelter, and safety is critical. This can be combined with longer term self-sufficiency, such as job finding services.

This can include, but is not limited to, needs such as rent, food, utilities, and maybe even transportation such as car repairs or gasoline. All aid depends on available funds.

Housing Stability Services can assist Seattle families with Eviction Prevention, security deposits, and Move-in assistance plus case management. Motel and Hotel Vouchers may be offered. Whether a family is evicted or disaster destroys a home, the Salvation Army can usually provide short-term motel vouchers and transitional housing, giving people a safe place to stay.





Many Seattle Salvation Army centers operate food pantries. They are often open limited hours, and only certain days of the week. Most of the centers will provide emergency food boxes, meals, and groceries. Typically emergency food boxes are only available every 30 days, and will be limited to one box per household. Registration will be needed as well.

Holiday and in particular Christmas assistance programs are administered. This Salvation Army program will usually open up around the major holidays, such as Easter, Thanksgiving, and of course Christmas.

The application process will normally require a photo ID for all adults 18 and older in the home and verification of the family incomes. There also needs to be proof of family home address, and also verification of children's ages 17 and under in the home.

As part of holiday assistance, individuals may qualify for toys from Angel Tree, free Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and food, and home delivered meals for seniors. Toys and food at Christmas time are always in high demand. Therefore anyone from Seattle who wants to donate can do so, and families can also look into additional sources of Christmas help which they may qualify for.

The Seattle Salvation Army Senior Centers are diverse in the services they offer. Many people say they are fun and they offer a caring, warm, and friendly atmosphere for all those seniors and elderly in the Seattle and greater King County region.




The centers can provide a wide variety of services and assistance programs to seniors, such as blood pressure check-up, daily meals, grocery table, pet food, flu shots, foot care, eye screening, and income tax preparation. Also get information on government assistance such as Medicaid, free health care clinics in the region, and other public assistance that is tailored for seniors.
