Emergency assistance from the EAN Network in Santa Clara County.

The Emergency Assistance Network (EAN) program is Santa Clara County’s front-door safety service for residents facing eviction, utility shutoffs or hunger. The organizations that partner with the county can provide one-time financial help for bills and stabilization services by ZIP code. Learn more on the Emergency Assistance Network in Santa Clara County, including how to apply.

EAN agencies provide payments for housing costs, including rent, deposits, utility arrears or move-in costs. There are also links to food and transportation support for employment. EAN organizations also coordinate case management, legal or tenant-rights referrals so households can stay housed. The support is a last resort, and applicants need to be out of all other options.

Types of financial help from EAN for Santa Clara County families

The County’s Office of Supportive Housing designates several local non-profit agencies to provide one-time financial help with Sacred Heart serving as the coordinating partner for the broader homelessness-prevention system. The county directs residents to the network and to the Homelessness Prevention System run with Destination: for screening and referrals. Get both short term cash to pay an expense, and just as importantly access to longer term self-sufficiency type resources.

  • If you are facing an eviction and can’t pay your rent, funds for paying back rent may be available. They also direct people to other places that help with rent in Santa Clara County.
  • A limited amount of mortgage assistance can be provided if someone is in danger of homelessness or facing foreclosure.
  • Food assistance, groceries, and meals can be offered.
  • Medical help and transportation to appointments, such as a doctor in San Jose, can be arranged.
  • Families faced with disconnection of utilities may qualify for help.
  • Find information on job training programs and services that can help someone find a job.

EAN’s one-time help is designed for a crisis. An organization will tend to help where a modest payment for housing or employment costs keeps a household stably housed. Combining that payment with casework, food access and legal support reduces future crises and shortens the time people spend in a shelter.

Any assistance with bills is typically short-term. Any request for help needs to be tied to a documented crisis such as a loss of hours at work, an unexpected medical bill, a rent hike or a lease signing.
