San Mateo California community clinics.

Medical care services in San Mateo County are provided by community clinics, health care centers, and other providers. Many locations in the county provide more basic type care, such as physicals, health screenings, primary health care, information on free medication programs, and referrals to specialists. Some locations offer dental care and cleanings as well, particularly for children. They provide essential services to low-income, uninsured people, or the un- or underserved, irrespective of their ability to pay, cultural or ethnic backgrounds. Patients can save a substantial amount of money on their medical bills by using a low cost or free clinic.

While the exact details of health services vary, in general they are offered by licensed professionals, doctors, dentists, or nurses who volunteer their time. Most of the care is temporary, not ongoing. Those patients who need ongoing care or assistance with paying their medical bills are referred to other San Mateo County services or state of California programs.
