Rhode Island free Christmas and holiday assistance.

There are a number of charities or churches that provide free Christmas toys, gifts, food baskets and other help at Christmas as well as Thanksgiving. Assistance is given during key holidays, and the primary assistance programs for low income families include free Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army Angel Tree, Thanksgiving turkey meals, as well as Adopt a Family from various charities.

Many of the agencies are located in the Providence County area, but holiday assistance is available in all portions of the state. The programs range from free toys or gifts from Adopt a Family to several places to turn to for a free holiday meal, box of food or a gift card. There is also holiday meals on wheels for the elderly as well as the free USMC Toys for Tots program, which is also available from many Rhode Island agencies.

The primary organizations to register for are below. Each relies on donations from the public, so not every non-profit can offer a gift or food basket. But when the programs are fully funded, what a client may be able to obtain ranges from a toy or game for a child, a hot turkey meal during Thanksgiving, and Christmas food baskets. The application period starts early and any support is usually provided on a first come and served basis to income qualified families in Rhode Island.

Most of the organizations also focus on just residents of that town or city. Several just provide food or a meal as well. So there are many restrictions and some charities will not have enough resources to help all needy families at Christmas.
