Emergency programs from Providence County Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army in Providence provides the low income with human services and emergency financial assistance. A number of social services and programs are available. Examples include Rent and Energy Bill Help from Homeless Prevention, Meals and Free Food Programs, Shelter, Clothing, and Holiday Assistance. Resources are available for qualified people of all ages and religions, including men, women and children in Providence County Rhode Island.

Community and worship centers operate in the region. The primary Providence Corps Community Centers are located at 386 Broad St., Providence, Rhode Island 02907, (phone (401)831-1119) as well as 386 Broad St in Providence. Call (401)831-1119.

In the greater Providence area, as well as the nearby suburbs, volunteers and other professional case managers deliver social services and emergency assistance. The locations are a great place to contact when you are struggling. Whether you need food, lost your job, or have been hit by a recent unexpected bill, call one of these centers to learn about support they may be able to offer. You will receive free, confidential, and compassionate advice from a specialist.

While an application process is in place, families may qualify for comprehensive emergency assistance. This can include, but is not limited to, free food, housing, rental assistance, transportation, or clothing. Some centers can even provide basic health care, or refer people to clinics in the greater Providence region. They can offer as medical, dental and optical support. Other assistance includes summer camp, emergency disaster activities, and referrals.

Centers in Providence Rhode Island are provided support and emergency help from the Army's Northeastern Regional Office. In addition to offering direct support, they partner with many local non-profit agencies and charities to ensure that the client's basic needs are met in a holistic fashion. For example, a case manager can help people apply for government aid such as LIHEAP or weatherization. Or SNAP food stamps.

The Providence Salvation Army is a Christian organization that can help people of all religions, backgrounds, and cultures. Some centers also focus on Hispanics and newcomers to the area. They try to meet the basic needs of the region by running various emergency assistance and social service programs. They also offer Christian services and a ministry. Services available include, but are not limited to.

 

 

 

 

  • Utility assistance – This includes funds for winter heating and even water bills. Those with a disconnection notice are given priority. A priority from the Salvation Army is on ensuring seniors and families with children in Providence have heat during the winter. If the charity can’t assist, find other utility bill assistance programs in Rhode Island.
  • Holiday programs, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving meals. Free gifts may be offered around Christmas too.
  • Food pantries and a meal site are available in Providence, as well as a soup kitchen.
  • Medical programs, such as vouchers for prescriptions or dental/health care. Medications may be offered to those with a life threatening condition.
  • Other resources include Child care, Summer Camp, Christian ministry, Church, Volunteer Work, Before /After School Program and disaster assistance for fire victims and others.

Programs for students and youngsters in Providence County include Sunbeams, Girl Guards, musical instruction, Boys Adventure Corps, and Teen Ministries. Adult specific activities will be bible study, Men's Fellowship, Woman's Ministries, and recreation. All programs are available for the general public.

The local Salvation Army centers also provide an outlet for other social service programs to the community including feeding programs, after school programs, school readiness programs, sheltering, emergency financial assistance (as indicated above), homeless prevention, job training, and support to those who are seeking employment skills.

All of the services listed here are just examples of what the Providence Rhode Island agency can help with. While funding is limited, and the organization relies heavily on donations and the time commitment from volunteers, they do their best to help those who are struggling.
