A focus is on seniors and parents with young kids in Ocean County. Programs include assistance with housing (rent, utilities, etc.), transitional housing, and referrals.

 

 

 

Ocean County Board of Social Services has 2 offices, both of which help coordinate government rent relief. Or get help from TANF (WorkFirst), free motel or hotel vouchers, and more. Catholic Charities helps the working poor. An emergency rental assistance program is in place for individuals who have a notice to quit or eviction notice. They also offer case management, counseling, and have information on other local low income housing programs in Ocean County. The office is based in Trenton but covers Ocean County. The non-profit, community action organization can help low income families and seniors apply for grants to pay rent or energy bills. Saint Vincent DePaul Society at Saint Joseph's

Limited financial aid, including for rent or tenant utility bills. Payments are made to the landlord or property owner - cash is not given to the tenant. They also may loan out funds for helping with bills, security deposits, or back rent.

The Christian Charity helps the poor, homeless and people in need with housing, including immediate financial help for rent. There are also short term housing programs, vouchers for a hotel, and other programs that offer emergency rental assistance in the region.

Ocean County Legal Services handles housing and civil law, including housing and eviction defencse assistance. Pro-bono attorneys can help deal with landlords, or refer tenants to possible resources for emergency financial aid for paying back rent expenses or dealing with unsafe apartments. Assistance from Section 8 housing vouchers is an option. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs runs the Section 8 Existing Housing program, including in Ocean County. This federal government funded program will subsidize the rent paid by local families so that they can afford to pay for safe, decent housing in the private rental market. Participants will still need to pay a portion of their income towards housing costs.
