Peoples Place assistance programs.

Resources are available to the poor and low income in Sussex, Kent, and New Castle County Delaware from People’s Place. The charity has a homeless shelter, grant money for veterans, income based apartments and other programs.  The non-profit will try to address specific needs of qualified individuals to help them find their path to independence and self-sufficiency. Services are offered for veterans, the homeless, and the working poor in the area. Find help from People’s Place in Delaware.

Emergency homeless shelter and short term housing

Abriendo Puertas, or Opening Doors, is a crisis housing / shelter program for Latina women and their children. The shelter is for those that are facing a domestic violence situation and that need a place to stay. Other services provided at the same time include case management, family therapy, and free lawyers consultations in Delaware. Other transition services, including help with finding a job in Sussex County or Delaware.

Assistance is arranged by Whatcoat Social Services. What may be offered includes transitional housing, case management services, and short term shelter for low-income families and individuals. While enrollment is open to anyone from the region, priority for any housing or rent assistance is given to victims of domestic violence as well as homeless individuals and families.

Whatcoat Social Services can provide other help as well. Get assistance in paying the rent or security deposit on a new apartments, job search, enroll into continuing education classes, and learn about tips and tricks for increasing income. Other resources include Vera’s Haven transitional Housing as well as the Ruth Dorsey Emergency Homeless Shelter.

Independent Living is for former and even current foster youth under the age of 21. Programs will help them achieve self-sufficiency, live in a safe and healthy environment, as well as reach and maintain their maximum potential. Some of the services include money management, assistance in the areas of job search and accessing training, educational planning, rent assistance, development of social skills, and accessing community non-profit resources.

 

 

 

SAFE, or the Shelter Advocacy Freedom & Empowerment, are shelters located in Delaware, including in Kent and Sussex. Peoples Place will coordinate emergency shelter in a safe and supportive environment using the empowering Sanctuary Model. Social workers partner with domestic violence survivors in an effort to give them the support and assistance they need to gain stability. Work with staff on finding a job, getting settled into transitional housing, and other support. Advocates also work with the Delaware of Children, Youth, and their Families.

Counseling centers and recovery programs from People’s Place

Peoples Place works with the State of Delaware to offer the Center for Community Justice. This provides victim-offender mediation for non-violent offenses. What is coordinated is mediation services, employer and employee dispute resolution, and other forms and types of mediation are also offered.

Counselors will work with clients to resolve non-violent disputes between landlords and tenants, neighbors, roommates, friends or co-workers. This, and more, can be effectively addressed through the Community Mediation program. Peoples Place staff will also provide support for the youth in the community..

Counseling Centers are located in Millsboro, Milford, Seaford and Smyrna Delaware. The non-profit organization and its Counseling Centers provide a wide array of social and emergency services to children and adults including prescription medication management as well as individual and family therapy. The counseling also helps low-income families in Delaware with dental needs, including details on a local dentist that accepts Medicaid insurance as a form of payment

Clients of these centers are either self-referrals or referrals by physicians, charities and social service agencies. Licensed doctors as well as mental health therapists provide a combination of therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and other behavioral problems.

People’s Place assistance for veterans

Veterans Outreach is always a priority. People’s Place provides this in partnership with the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs. The program offers military members, veterans and their families with a wide range of assistance.

The resources are for those veterans who live in areas from lower New Castle County up to and including the Delaware-Maryland line. Services range from guidance to access state and federal government VA benefits, career counseling, medical care, prescription drugs, mental health counseling, and, if needed, free  door-to-door transportation to medical facilities and hospitals.
