Catholic Charities assistance programs Stillwater and Payne County.

There are many struggling families in the Catholic Charities Payne County service area. Based on available resources, the non-profit will offer solutions to end the crisis being faced by the person. This may include the issuance of direct financial aid, or they offer referrals to partner agencies in Payne County or Stillwater.

Any type of assistance from the Catholic Charity church would only be for a portion of an expense due and as resources allow The applicant will need to show the means to pay the balance on the account. However, free food from the pantry will be for those facing hunger. Also, almost anyone can be linked to other agencies in the region. In general, the applicant must also agree to receive case management services to increase the likelihood that he/she will be able to overcome their hardship.

Hunger prevention from food programs

Very low income families, immigrants, migrant workers as well as children can receive a hot meal from the soup kitchen. When possible, everyone is served with no questions asked. Payne County Catholic Charities may offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks.

All of the meals served are cooked by volunteers. They rely on ingredients from partners, such as restaurants and local businesses in Stillwater. Anyone who donates their time to the Payne County Catholic Charities soup kitchen are encouraged to provide feedback on what is served to the needy in order to make improvements to this service. Another goal is to serve healthy food to address obesity.

Non-perishable food and groceries are passed out too. These will not be “hot” items. But the Payne County Catholic Charities free food pantry serves its own purpose.

Families in an emergency can receive a bag of groceries. It may even be enough to feed a family for a few days, and this is offered for eligible participants. Catholic Charities in Stillwater may pass out canned fruits and vegetables, soup, milk, bread, meat and other edible items. More fresh type food are offered as well, such as fruits and vegetables. One service, the Garden Project, will give people a voucher. The certificate can be used to purchase garden seeds or even live plants. Another use is to acquire canning supplies. After this has been done, the Payne County Catholic Charities clients then plants a garden.

Workshops organized by Payne County Catholic Charities partners will also offer advice on how to garden. Classes can show the proper techniques and give tips to the family so they use their voucher effectively. So the fruit and vegetable service is combined with other support.

Housing services from Catholic Charities in Stillwater

Tenants facing an unexpected crisis that is not the result of anything they created may be able to get help with a rent or energy bill payment. This will only be for low income families in Payne County that are threatened with an eviction and that otherwise are self-sufficiency, if it were not for the crisis.

From time to time Payne County Catholic Charities may offer rent/security deposit assistance to assist eligible persons to either keep or pay for new permanent housing. The applicant must provide proof that they have some steady and reliable source of income. This is required as they need to be able to afford the home on their own in the future. So they need wages/salary from a job, a pension or receipt of funds from a public assistance program, such as disability.

In some cases, Payne County Catholic Charities offers financial aid in partnership with another funder, such as the salvation Army. Or they may decide to issue a low interest loan to some families for paying their rent costs.

There may also be referrals to public housing, including section 8 in Oklahoma. This is available due to programs offered by the Stillwater County Housing Authority. Operating countywide, an emergency home repair program is in place. This is mostly for seniors or the disabled that have no other options available to them. Some of the repairs range from work on water heaters, roof patching, hand rails, and more. All applicants need to have an unforeseen combination of circumstances which call for immediate action to protect the health or safety of the occupants.

 

 

 

 

School supplies or clothing

School districts often require, and students need, supplies to help them hit their educational goals. Sometimes what is needed is relatively expensive. Working poor families from Payne County Oklahoma often struggle to come up with the money for what they need.

Catholic Charities in Stillwater may be able to assist. School supply fund raisers and donation programs help lower-income families by providing some or all of the basic necessities to the student.
