Transitional housing and homeless shelters in Northern area of Michigan.

There are several homeless shelters as well as short term, temporary transitional housing programs in Northern Michigan, both western and eastern. Charities and churches provide the homeless and poor a place to stay. Find a shelter or transitional housing program, for adults, veterans and others, that may be in your area of Michigan.

Most of the transitional housing programs that operate in the region of northeastern Michigan may not be as convenient to residents. Qualified families and homeless may need to travel to a site or call them for referrals. Most of the sites are in the Grand Rapids area. However the main non-profits and organization to contact are below.

The counties supported include Alpena, Alcona, Arenac, Bay, Clare, Crawford, as well as Gratiot, There are also temporary places to stay in Gladwin, Huron, Isabella, Midland, Montmorency, Otsego, Oscoda, Presque Isle, Roscommon, Saginaw and Tuscola Michigan. Not only will qualified clients and homeless families be provided a room or apartment to stay, but other case management and social services are offered too. This ranges from food, meals, to free job search assistance and placement. All of this is done in an effort to help the individual gain self-sufficiency and stability.

The focus of this non-profit agency is on supporting children, teenagers, runaways and the youth in the region. Temporary housing is for youth in Mecosta County.

Provides social services, referrals, and information on housing programs in the northeastern part of Michigan. Some of the transitional housing focuses on women or veterans. The charity covers most of eastern MI, with details on social services for homeless people or families.

Transitional housing and shelter is offered for children, homeless, and the poor in Eaton County. Veterans can also get a free motel voucher or help moving after leaving a transitional housing program.

Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan and Otsego

Patriot Place is a transitional housing program for veterans, their families, and military members. Basic needs can be met as well, including meals, clothing, and job search.

Inner City Christian Federation

Runs several transitional housing programs, emergency shelter, and more. People recovering from an addiction can get access to free temporary housing and there is shelter for immigrants and single moms in Grand Rapids MI too.

Salvation Army short term housing
Most communities in Michigan, including the eastern, northern, and western parts of the state have Salvation Army centers. There are homeless shelters as well as transitional housing programs.
