Neighborhood House financial assistance programs.

A leading charity in the state of Delaware is Neighborhood House. The faith based organization will do its best to help the less fortunate and poor. As funding and resources allow, the agency will assist and guide families. Staff will work with them and help them find their own path to productivity, self-sufficiency, and long term success. They advocate for the community and offer economic and leadership development.

Throughout this process, some people may qualify for emergency or crisis aid from Neighborhood House. This can include housing assistance for rent or mortgages, weatherization, or heating bill assistance. Neighborhood House also offers clients with ongoing social services so they can thrive in today's challenging society and job market. The Programs and Resources serve residents in New Castle County Delaware. They can address a number of different needs. Examples of the services are as follows.

Financial aid for paying bills in New Castle County

Emergency assistance and Crisis Relief can assist low income families and individuals. The help provided and programs administered will assist with meeting their immediate basic needs of paying the rent, food, heat and electricity. Neighborhood House may have this for crisis situations and can help people become more stable.

Rent, mortgage, and other housing information is available from the Neighborhood House staff. The resource is known as Housing Services and it is a source of information to countless New Castle County and Wilmington residents. Assistance is for issues ranging from simply keeping and paying the rent to purchasing a new home.

Any financial assistance is usually paid for by donations from the community. So, as this funding allows, Neighborhood House may be able to help pay for a portion of rent or a security deposit. Or maybe the funds will go to providing food. This crisis support can be available for renters, homeowners, and/or persons in need of utility bill or food assistance. They also run a so called food closet that is open by appointment only. Individuals need to call the Family Services department to set up an appointment at the pantry.

Weatherization is the main federal government program for saving money on utility and heating bills. it operates across New Castle County. The main purpose is to install free energy efficiency improvements in the homes of low-income persons.

It will help them maximize their energy savings and improve their overall health and safety. The Weatherization Assistance Program assists income-eligible residents by reducing their total heating/cooling costs and by also improving the safety of their homes or even rentals.

Housing counselors from the non-profit can provide clients with guidance on mortgage defaults, buying a home, financial literacy, renting an apartment, and/or foreclosure intervention, or dealing with credit issues. The agency is a US Department of Housing and Urban Development certified organization.

While some of the services are offered to income qualified residents for free, other housing assistance comes with a small fee. This can include activities such as Pre-Purchase or credit counseling in the state of Delaware.

Self-sufficiency, education, employment and counseling

Services for youth will help them grow, learn, and gain long term success. Programs include the All Stars, UD Early Learning Center, Homework Help, and the Extended Hours Program. These, and more, are part of the Youth Services Before and After school care

Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program, or PSSF, works to address the long term, healthy development of children. It will strengthen and preserve families in a caring and safe community. It involves family support and people entering into a consultation process using prevention and early intervention strategies. There are also several different coordinated and supportive services available.

The Middletown Neighborhood House runs a housing counseling operation and provides Family Services as well. Among other services, it will help with job search assistance and similar activities. Clients can get guidance on locating a new, or better job, in New Castle or surrounding regions.
