Free dental care in Minnesota for youth.

Kids, teens, and even expectant women in MN can get free dental care, regardless of their income or insurance status. The non-profit Children's Dental Services operates across the state with dozens of local partners, including volunteer dentists, clinics, and even national dental chains. Find more details below on how young people, including pregnant women in Minnesota can get their dental needs met for free.

The program will cover kids and young adults up to age 26. This also includes infants if needed as well as women who are expecting a child. The focus is on preventive dental services including fluoride treatments, cleanings, and sealants. However some urgent care will be provided by some partners too.

How kids and young adults will get free dental care

The free dental services are offered to all kids or as noted pregnant women, at dozens of free dental care sites in the state. The treatments are managed by a local hygienist from the Children's Dental Services network with a checkup from a dentist as well as needed. Children's Dental Services also provides assistance to people of all faiths, nationalities, immigration status and ages. There are dentists and hygienists that offer cultural care too if needed, including in languages such as Spanish, Arabic and others.

If a Minnesota family already has commercial dental or health insurance, those parents and their children will be strongly encouraged to visit their previously established provider. The Children's Dental Services tries to focus on people that are low-income and/or uninsured in order to ensure everyone gets the care they need. They also give free care to homeless teens in Minnesota.

If the family does not have a primary dentist, children will be referred either to a local provider. They will assess the care needed and come up wit a treatment plan. The local center will also help the family will be assisted in finding appropriate dental services that are free in their community. There are also oral surgeons available if needed. Please note that all children receiving dental care will need parental consent.

In addition, Children's Dental Services will provide dental care for children on public assistance, including Medicaid (MN Medical Assistance), TANF, SNAP and other benefits. Clients can also get tips on how to get help with dental bills.

 

 

 

Health insurance plans will be billed for the dental services those who have it. Assistance in applying for insurance is available as well if you need it. For those who are income-eligible or without health insurance, some of the medical services will be provided on a sliding fee scale or free care program to the low income.

Services offered from the Minnesota dental program include consultations, initial screening, cleanings, flouride treatments, some minor surgery if needed and oral health education. There are a number of locations in the state that partner with Children's Dental Services to provide care to kids under the age of 26 as well as pregnant women.  However the primary locations are at 636 Broadway St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413 as well as 728 E Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Additional dental programs for kids in MN

In addition to the Children’s Dental programs, there are other volunteer dentists that give free care that is focused on kids. The MN Dental Lifeline Network (dial 651-454-6290) or there is also Medical Assistance from the government.
