One of the leading non-profits in the area is Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc of Los Angeles. This organization has partnered with various other local non-profits, lawyers and government agencies to offer a large number of foreclosure prevention programs to struggling homeowners in the area. Many were created in partnership with the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, A County Board of Supervisors, as well as local non-profit credit counselors in LA. Support The Enlisted Project only helps veterans (and their families) with their mortgage. While based in San Diego, they provide assistance across all of southern California. Various legal aid attorneys and pro-bono lawyers in Los Angeles County provide help too. There are free in person or phone consultations with people living in/or near poverty levels able to get free advice.
