Lawrence County Salvation Army - This non-profit agency may be able to provide some limited financial help, as funding allows. Possible money for rent and/or utility and heating bills as well as food. In addition they are a great place to turn to for information on other charities, government programs, and counseling. Community Health and Wellness Center - Contact this clinic for information on low cost or free medical and other health care resources and programs. 279-6222

Legal Aid Society - This law firm may be able to provide qualified low income individuals with free, pro-bono legal assistance, representation, and other forms of assistance. The organization can provide quality legal services to eligible residents of Vanderburgh County as well as the surrounding areas of Indiana. (812) 435-5173. Impact Christian Health Center - This clinic may be able to help the very low income and or homeless in the community. Among the services and programs provided include prescription medications, Dental Services, Medical Services,  and other health care. Dial (812) 426-6152

Crawford County United Ministries, Inc. - This non-profit charity organization provides a limited amount of free food and groceries for low to moderate individuals or families during emergency situations or crisis type situations. Funding is limited. Dial 812-739-4092

Cedar Creek Baptist Church - Phone 812-365-2177. Marengo IN. May have emergency crisis assistance and limited funding.

First Assembly of God - They help with providing food (food vouchers only), rent assistance, and funds for paying utilities. Call 812-275-4280

Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corporation is the community action agency for Lawrence, Martin, Orange, and Washington Counties Indiana.

 

 

 

 

  • Heating and Energy Bills - The agency administers the federal government Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Block Grant, which is a grant program that is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It can provide funds for qualified individuals to help them pay heating and/or utility bills.
  • Head Start - This program can provide children with educational, food, and nutritional assistance.
  • Information and referrals - Learn about local charities, non-profits, and government programs that can provide emergency assistance.
  • Housing Counseling - Get support and advice in dealing with a foreclosure, landlord/tenant mediation, and other housing aid. They are a HUD approved housing agency.

Hoosier Uplands Energy Assistance Program - The agency can assists with paying for heating and electric bills during fall and winter for low-income persons. Bedford IN 812-279-0412

God’s Place Ministries - Call the charity for meals, counseling, pantry/store, free food, clothing, hygiene items, household items for needy. Call 812-755-4449

Salvation Army - Several different assistance programs are offered by this Bedford Indiana agency. Call 812-275-5429. Some of the aid offered includes  Rent, Mortgage and Utilities Help —if monetary funds are available and only as funding of last resort to qualified applicants. Qualified individuals can only receive financial help once a year. In addition, clothing is also offered in the form of a voucher of up to $100. The money must be spent in the thrift store. Household products and furnishing are also provided, as well as free food.

 

 

 

 

Lawrence County only rental assistance - There are a few places to try. Any type of financial aid or grant is combined with counseling. The goal is to both stop an eviction, and ensure the home or apartment is affordable to live in over the long term. Read more.

The Society of St. Vincent DePaul - Call them to learn about programs that may be able to offer emergency financial and clothing assistance, grants, and other aid, all of which is available for Bedford and the immediate area and communities. They also provide financial help with paying for heating bills and utilities, rent and non-narcotic prescription medications. Call 812-279-8555.
