Help with rent in Lake County Ohio.

Rental assistance is available from one of several agencies in Lake County Ohio. Each of the organizations that is involved in helping low income, struggling tenants will have limited resources and specialize in one or more issues. Some programs provide cash grants, others offer loans to help pay rent, and some agencies just provide counseling.

The assistance is one time only and requires a contribution from the client as well. The agencies, which are located in Painesville and other Lake County Ohio cities, not only may help with paying rent, but some offer energy assistance, home repairs, and foreclosure counseling. The main organizations, and what they may offer, are below.

When apply for emergency or long term rental assistance (or other housing programs), bring proof of income, residency, and be prepared for a case management plan. Any funds, whether it is a government grant to pay rent or other assistance such as section 8, is very limited and often has a waiting list.

Many services are offered by the non-profit community action agency. HOME is used for housing needs, and it offers rental assistance as well as housing location services. There are specific lease terms that need to be agreed to by the tenant and landlord, but HOME may also help fund a security deposit as well as first months rent cost.

The government office can refer clients to public housing or benefits such as section 8 housing vouchers. They also administer heating bill programs, cash aid, and have referrals to regional rent and housing programs.

When all other options do not work, there may be emergency financial assistance for rent or other needs. However generally the church will offer counseling, referrals to Lake County Ohio charities, shelter, and more. Rent or direct financial aid is a last resort only, but it may help the elderly, families with children, or at risk.

Pregnant women, single mothers, and teens may get help from the non-profit. Whether it is information on housing, food, furniture, or rental assistance for single moms,  intake may be offered.

Rapid rehousing and eviction prevention is arranged by multiple agencies. It is likely to get legal help to stop homelessness, but there are also government grants for paying rent, free motel vouchers, and transition housing among other services. More on eviction help in Lake County Ohio.

They oversee the waiting list for section 8 vouchers, which help with rent. Families living in poverty, that have a job, may qualify for this public housing program. There is a waiting list, but seniors, the disabled, and other emergency situation may be able to get help in less time.

They help the vulnerable location, and pay for affordable housing. Programs include TBRA - Tenant Based Rental Assistance, legal aid, and anti-discrimation services. They also help the disabled, provide advice on foreclosure, and offer information on local charities that offer loans or other forms of rent help.
