Free job training programs Indiana.

Indiana resources can provide job training opportunities, free career counseling, and staff can assist with conducting job searches. Services are administered by the federal government and state funded WorkOne centers. Sites are located in all towns and communities across Indiana, and find a job or career program near you below. Thousands of unemployed and others seeking a better opportunity for themselves are the primary users of the centers, but they are accessible to all Indiana residents. The main intake number for information on free job programs is 1-800-457-8283.

WorkOne Centers is Indiana help not only the unemployed but also immigrants, Minorities, students, and the “underemployed” get new skills. Or they help anyone in the state by holding job fairs, training with computers, and so much more. The employment services are free in Indiana.

Pre and post GED support in Indiana

An education and training program is known as WorkINdiana. Private and public employers across the state want individuals with motivation, experience and training. In today’s job market, a GED certificate or a High School Diploma may not be enough to help someone get the job they need. WorkINdiana can provide people the means to gain new skills and experience, including access to additional education.

While there are many components to it, the program allows clients to earn their GED certificate. Other skills and training can be provided in a free Adult Education classroom. This includes a large number of career certificate programs, all of which will give people the boost they need to get the job they want.

While the number will constantly change, there can be over 30 different certifications provided. Participants can start a new career in Business Administration and Support, Advanced Manufacturing, Health Care, Hospitality, Logistics, Information Technology, or Transportation. Those are just a few examples.

Some of the type of jobs that WorkINdiana graduates can obtain are below. Administrative Assistant, Automotive Service Technician, Certified Nurse Aide, Electronics Installer/Repairer, Expanded Duties Dental Assistant/Dental Assistant, Bookkeeper, Medical Assistant, Tax Preparer, Pharmacy Technician, Hospitality Staff, Computer Support Specialist, Emergency Medical Technician, Patient Representative, Light Truck or Delivery Services Truck Driver, Customer Service/Technical Support Representative and many more. Employers across Indiana are always on the lookout for WorkINdiana participants and other high skilled, quality applicants. Or find other entry level jobs for GED job seekers.

Dozens of high schools, community colleges, and alternative as well as middle schools participate in JAG, or Jobs for America’s Graduates. This is a nationwide school-to-career program and more information is available locally at WorkOne centers. The goal of JAG is to keep young people in school up through and including graduation. It can provide them with work-based learning experiences that will lead to more advanced career opportunities. Or, if the student determines it is their best option, JAG resources can help students enroll into a post secondary institution that leads to a rewarding, long term career.

The Indiana JAG Program delivers students and the youth with a unique set of services. This can include up to 12 months of post-graduation follow-up services and consultations. This will result in the graduate pursuing a post secondary education and/or entering the workforce. It should be in a quality job leading to a fulfilling career and a life sustaining income.

Assessment is provided by WorkKeys. This enables Indiana families to examine their individual strengths and weaknesses. It presents them the ability to compare their skills to available and standard job profiles which can help substantially when looking for career advancement opportunities or new jobs. It will help Hoosiers find the right jobs and go down the right career path to be successful.

Resources for the disabled, veterans, and migrants/immigrants

Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers can receive employment assistance from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Programs are available for those workers who are seeking skill enhancements and/or new work. Specialists are available to answer questions and provide support. Job-related assistance and information is available to qualified, lower income, under and unemployed farm workers at any WorkOne Center. A few examples of those services available to qualified workers include job search, skill building activities, referrals and placement, and training classes.

Find hiring employers and open positions at the IndianaCareerConnect. This is the leading database to use in the state. Residents can find a career close to their home that matches their skills and experience to what a business needs. Or candidates can explore job training opportunities to help you get the position you want. Thousands of full and part time jobs from many fields and careers will be listed.

Job Seekers with Disabilities can access Employment Assistance. The Indiana WorkOne centers provide services in both group and individual settings. Some of the centers may require clients to attend an orientation session to identify the services that they are eligible for.

Among services provided are materials in alternate formats and reasonable accommodations. These are offered to disabled job seekers upon request. In some cases an advance notice is required. A specialist at a WorkOne office can even offer assistance with filling out forms.

Another resource is assistive technology. Indiana locations are equipped with a variety of disabled accessible equipment. The exact items at each office will vary by location and what funding/resources they have. Some examples of items offered include text to speech software, large monitors, adjustable desks, screen readers and magnification software and more.

WorkOne centers grants are for the disabled too. The state, using federal funds from SSI, can help the disabled get clothes, pay for transportation, computers, and other goods they need for their career. There is financial help for the mentally as well as physically disabled in Indiana. Even find free disability transportation assistance programs.

Veterans Services is available. Indiana is committed to providing free, high quality employment services to veterans at the WorkOne Centers. They receive priority and a dedicated representative that assists with their employment and training needs.

Qualifications need to be met. If they are, then the state’s Veteran Service program provides specific career counseling and job placement services at the WorkOne Center. Aid is offered for those who served on active duty and were released because of a service connected illness or injury. Assistance is also an option for any individual who served more than 180 days on active duty. Those in the Indiana National Guard or Reserves  may be eligible for training if they were called to active duty during a war or in a campaign.

Federal government career centers in Indiana

Another key assistance program is On-the-Job Training. This will provide unemployed and others a great opportunity to get experience and begin their next career. On-the-job training in Indiana offers underemployed or unemployed individuals comprehensive training for a new career while they also earn a paycheck.

One of the main benefits to the training is that the participant can start their new career immediately instead of having to go through more traditional, formal, yet slower processes. That will usually need to be completed before starting your career. With this OJT program the client will be trained while they are working.

Not everyone can qualify. Some restrictions and candidates are those that have been laid off from another job and are unlikely to return to your previous occupation. Assistance is for those who are unemployed or underemployed and over the age of 18. Homemakers that are re-entering the workforce may also qualify for this statewide program.

WorkOne Centers provide dozens of services to clients. Some of what may be available is as follows. The unemployed, seniors, youth, dislocated workers and others may all qualify.

  • Receive free information and guidance on veteran's rights and employment benefits. Also get assistance transitioning into civilian employment.
  • Counselors offer face-to-face orientation at the WorkOne Centers.
  • Guidance finding vocational training programs that operate in Indiana.
  • Access face-to-face review of IndianaCAREERConnect.com, which is the state’s largest source of job openings.
  • Network and get direct referral to jobs and open positions from employers.
  • One on one assistance in looking for a job, developing a resume and preparing for a job interview.
  • Referrals to other state, federal government, and local agencies and offices.
  • Post-employment counseling is an option once you land a job.
  • Occupational skills assessment and training.

All of these various employment services provide candidates with the necessary information they need to both find and secure suitable employment in Indiana.
