Assistance programs in Elko, Lander, Humboldt, and Pershing Nevada.

There are several different non-profits, charities, and government programs in the region that may be able to support the low income. Find how to get help with bills and expenses below. In addition, some of the agencies just focus on providing information and/or referrals, which can also be very effective in this weak economy.

Only certain zip codes can apply for aid from Family Resource Centers of Northeastern Nevada. The non-profit offers low to moderate income families and individuals access to help in the following zip codes in Nevada, including 89815, 89801, 89802, 89803, 89822, 89823, 89824, 89825, 89826, 89833, 89828, 89830, 89831, 89832, , 89834, 89835, and 89883. Families from these regions may be able to get emergency financial assistance. Get help with paying for cooling and heating bills, rent, utilities and prescription needs when funds are available from the center. Elko Nevada based. Dial 775-753-7352. The counties of Lander, Elko, Humboldt, and Pershing Nevada are all served by Frontier Community Action Agency. The main office is located in Winnemucca and can be reached at (775) 621-8030. They offer individuals a number of low income assistance programs, such as help apply for LIHEAP, homeless prevention and rapid rehousing, and access to free health care and food.

Friends in Service Helping (FISH) (775-738-3038) can provide food, clothes, and shelter.

 

 

 

Call your local County Department of Human Services. Each county in the region has one of these. Services provided include Referral employment and job training, Rental Assistance Programs, LIHEAP, Utility Bill Assistance, Security Deposits for setting up households, Transportation, Free Food Program of Nevada (Jackpot only), as well as Child care assistance during job search. Community Health Clinic, which can be reached at 775-754-6354, will help all patients, regardless of income and background. The public health care center can offer free or low-cost healthcare services to residents of all ages and incomes in the region.

 

 

 

 

Special Assistance Fund for Energy - This state program can provides utility bill, heating, and general overall  energy bill assistance for those who qualify for cash grants. Call (775) 482-8125, or click here to find other energy programs in Nevada.

Community Action - There is a non-profit that is part of the nationwide network of community action agencies. The organization is focused on meeting the basic needs of the less fortunate and getting people back on track to stable employment. Social workers help income qualified clients in Pershing, Lander and other counties gain self-sufficiency. Programs administered include:

  • Food from a pantry and the federal government Summer Food Service Program.
  • Miles For Smiles dental assistance program.
  • Information on financial aid such as low income housing and utility bill assistance.

Foreclosure prevention in Lander, Elko, Humboldt, and Pershing Nevada

The state has been hit hard by the nation’s housing crisis. One of the leading agencies to call for help is NID  Housing Counseling Agency. Their information is below. Or you can look into other Nevada HUD free foreclosure counseling agencies.

NID offers homeowners a large number of free programs, including foreclosure intervention counseling, mortgage default counseling, as well as reverse mortgage and first time home buyer counseling. All counselors at the facility are NeighborWorks certified professionals. Call 775-322-5695
