Salvation Army assistance programs Dodge County region.

All of the assistance available from the multiple Dodge County Salvation Army centers is done so as their Family Services program. There may be some funds for rent, heating or utility bills, and other living expenses. The charity organization is part of the state of Wisconsin as well as national church based group that is focused on helping families and individuals. There is support for drug or alcohol abusers, the homeless, unemployed, and anyone that is in a crisis, including free school items and Christmas toys for kids. Three locations are in the area, including Beaver Dam, Waupun, as well as the Randolph/Fox Lake region.

The assistance is wide ranging. There is a particular focus on assisting children from struggling homes as well as the seniors. They too can be given food so they do not go hungry, be offered housing support, or a holiday meal. The Salvation Army of Dodge County is a big believer in that the older generation as well as children should not “suffer” based on conditions that are out of their control.

Get financial help for paying bills, housing, food and financial aid

With the demand for support very high in the community, the Dodge County Salvation Army will try to (but is not always able too) provide financial aid. There may be some money for utility bills, with a focus on keeping the electricity as well as water on. Since the assistance is short term in nature, they will generally refer the person to other aid such as LIHEAP grants.

Family Services also coordinates housing programs. Depending on the applicant's circumstances, the type of assistance provided will be based on that. As a homeless person in Dodge County may be placed into a shelter. On the other hand, a family with an income, but that has a short term hardship and is threatened with an eviction, may be given assistance to pay their rent.

Since the Family Services group will not emphasize financial help and case management, the housing programs are combined with self-sufficiency. A tenant that is in rent arrears may be able to qualify for financial assistance, but the social worker will also direct them to a more affordable home. Or stress conserving electricity use, which can free up their money for their rent. The housing services also focus on employment and on the family gaining a wage with a life sustaining income. There are even eviction prevention programs in Wisconsin.

The emergency food pantry is also open. Partnering with Feeding America and the United Way in Dodge County, this Salvation Army service is just one tool that can battle hunger. The pantry can provide groceries, give information on applying for food stamps, and even provide volunteer work opportunities for people looking for skills for a resume.

Social services from Dodge County Salvation Army

The Dodge County Salvation Army also assists people with an addiction. It can be due to alcohol, drugs, or some other condition. The church based group uses all the tools needed to try to support the abuser. The solutions incorporate counseling to referrals to in placement homes. Once the addition has been broken, the client can then turn to the other social services available.

Salvation Army programs in Dodge County for the elderly and children

Considering that an increasing number of senior citizens are living on their personal retirement savings (and not a pension) there are programs tailored to meet their needs. One major focus of the Salvation Army in Dodge County is on budgeting, and the organization will show them how to use free coupons when shopping for groceries, review public benefits, and more. This education is critical. Other aid for seniors may be:

  • -Meals on Wheels in Beaver Dam and Randolph.
  • -Information on medical care, including prescription drug vouchers, applying for Medicare, and other elderly services.
  • -Holiday companionship and meals, Christmas parties, and visitation to hospitals.

Several resources can help children. The staff do not want a child to suffer if their parent lost their job or if they are behind on their bills. The Salvation Army in Dodge County therefore has several programs tailored for their needs. Students can be given free school supplies; Angel Tree can offer Christmas toys; and low cost summer camps are organized each year. Other resources are also offered for the youth in the community.
