Free holiday and Christmas assistance Delaware

Free holiday programs, including free Christmas toys, meals or Thanksgiving turkey dinners are provided by several agencies in Delaware. Most of the charities as well as churches that administer these assistance programs only focus on low income families from the immediate area of where they are located, but they may also have referrals. Apply for free Toys for Tots as well as the Angel Tree from the Salvation Army, Adopt a Family Christmas and holiday services, Meals on Wheels in Delaware and more.

Clients to these holiday programs include children, senior citizens, and single moms that are looking for presents for their child. The organizations try to give children, teens and infant free Christmas toys, games, books, clothes, hygiene items, and other holiday joy. Low-income families in DE can also get free holiday (Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas) food boxes from charities.

Most of the Delaware agencies operate on the Adopt a Family model. This means that volunteers and collections occur in the community, and what is donated will be given to income qualified families. In addition to passing out items such as free toys, games, Legos, video games or books, there will also usually be Christmas or Thanksgiving meals served too. The enrollment period in Delaware will normally open up in September or October of each year, but the specifics vary.

The non-profit runs an adopt-a-family program in New Castle County. Referrals are needed from a social worker. Christmas help runs from October through December, and the government office matches sponsors with families, children and individuals who do not have the money to pay for holiday gifts or toys.

A leading social service agency in Delaware WI. There is financial help, free food or hot meals, Christmas and holiday gifts and more. Kids can also get free winter coats, or the elderly Thanksgiving or Christmas meal deliveries among other programs.

Thurman Adams State Service Center

Programs include Toys for Tots, free holiday food baskets, food, and furnace repairs during the Christmas time-frame. They also deliver frozen holiday meals, such as turkeys, hams, desserts, breads and more. There are also congregate meals.

Salvation Army free holiday resources
There are many locations around the state. They offer a number of social services, including free holiday assistance at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even Easter. There is the Angel Tree program, which gives kids games, clothes, books, matchbox cars, video games or consoles and other Christmas gifts. There are free Thanksgiving dinner served in the state as well as Christmas baskets. Financial aid, food pantries, and other resources are offered too.

Kind To Kids Foundation

Helps is for foster children, teens that ran away, and the youth. Clothes, Christmas stocking stuffers, free gifts, personal toiletries and more. There is also referrals to homeless shelters and bus passes.

They have a free Christmas toy giveaway event. It is first-come served and depends on donations. Parents with children, including single moms, can get free toys, books, video games, sporting goods, clothes and more.

Toys for Tots in Delaware
This is a statewide service. The US Marine Corps partners with charities, corporations and other non-profits. Kids under the age of 17 can get help. There may be gift cards, free Christmas toys, educational or learning games, books, dolls for girls or trucks for boys and so much more. Or get clothes, jackets, sneakers, sports toys and more. They only hold Jewish holiday celebrations for Delaware residents of that faith.

Catholic Charities Churches
There are several application sites too. Everything from free Thanksgiving or Christmas baskets to soup kitchens for frozen or hot meals. Also shop at a thrift store. There is help for low income families, the elderly, disabled and others. Get free Christmas gifts, toys, food baskets and other goods. They help seniors, the disabled, and unemployed get year round benefits as well as help at the main holidays,

They work with other non-profits to pass out Christmas gifts - new or barely used. In general, one day per year around the holiday the toys, presents and more are passed out for free.

Neighborhood House

Family Services include Adopt a Family at Christmas. Children and working poor families can get games, small toys, and presents to open under the tree from this charity. There are also meals served for members of the New Castle Community. This is a walk in service too.

There may be everything from furniture to baby supplies at the holidays. Gifts are for children under the age of 17, and they need to be in school. There are volunteers that wrap and deliver toys and presents, school supplies, personal hygiene, and even holiday furniture/decorations. This is a one time program.

They focus on residents in NE Wilmington. Free toys, food baskets, turkey dinners, Christmas gifts and more. The unemployed, single moms or dads, elderly and others can get holiday assistance.

The free food pantry and clothing closet have holiday meals, year round or winter clothes and food. Or clothes, hygiene supplies, books, learning games and more may be for kids from the clothing center. Or get help from public assistance programs.
