Free clothing closets, school supplies and furniture Contra Costa County.

Clothing closets and furniture banks in the Contra Costa California region provide families with free goods, including household stuff, furniture, coats, school supplies, shoes, appliances, general clothes, and more. What is available at each center will vary based on donations from the community and the time of the year. Find free clothes and furniture near you in Contra Costa County.

In addition to clothing, social workers and volunteers will try to address other needs. Everything from free birthday toys to kids to books, school or work uniforms, or beds or couches for a home new may be offered. In addition, this can include referrals to government programs or other regional non-profits in Contra Costa County. Some of the clothing banks will also provide food, diapers, formula, furniture, fridges, washers or dryers, or similar items. Once again, this will vary be center and location.

Thousands of local families turn to the local thrift stores and the free clothing as well as furniture banks every year. Both free stuff or vouchers are given out. An on site clothing closet offers free clothes to qualified people from the community. Goods are offered for people of all sizes. Other items passed out include bedding and linens to low income/homeless. in some cases, emergency furniture programs can help low income families, immigrants, and newcomers to Contra Costa County.

Antioch Ministerial Fellowship

A free clothing closet and food pantry is offered. During the summer and fall volunteers work to offer students free back to school supplies, book bags, and other goods.

 

 

 

Birthright

Contra Costa families receive maternity and baby clothes, free pregnancy testing, diapers, baby formula and food donations. Also get information and referrals to help with other issues such as legal, medical, financial, and housing needs. Programs offered regardless of age, income, and religion.

St. Vincent De Paul Society

This charity and its partner churches provide services including information, crisis management and referral. Free clothing may be offered as well low cost goods from a thrift store. The agency also helps people find a job and coordinates employment opportunities as well as on-the-job-training. Other goods include clothes for work or a job interview, including a suit, dress, uniform, or more or free school supplies for kids from grade K-12.   • St. Agnes Church - St. Vincent De Paul Society is at 3966 Chestnut Avenue, Concord, CA 94521. Call (925) 689-0838. In addition to the furniture for a home or apartment, as well as clothes, they help people pay driver's license fees or register their car/
  • Queen of All Saints the location is 2390 Grant Street, Concord, CA 94520. Call (925) 609-5944. They are also part of the SVDP voucher program.
  • St. Isidore - St. Vincent de Paul is at 440 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA 94526. Call (925) 837-2122
  • Christ the King at 195-199 Brandon Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523. Call (925) 246-1131 or (925)682-2486 has free vouchers for clothes for both women and men.

Leftovers Thrift Shop, part of the Contra Costa Crisis Center

The center sells to people, regardless of their income, used clothing, collectibles, jewelry, housewares, linens, and even books. Very low cost, yet only gently used, items are for sale. Anyone can shop. Get bargain housewares, electronics such as a computer, work or school clothes, jewelry, appliances, TV and other goods. Look here for other bargains at a thrift store.

The Salvation Army - Concord Corps

Free clothes for low-income families in Contra Costa County is available. May have free Christmas assistance including toys and gifts. School supplies such as backpacks and clothing may be offered too. The low income from Contra Costa may also qualify for emergency assistance for bills or other costs.

  • There is another place for free stuff or vouchers too. Antioch location of Salvation Army location is 4600 Appian Way, El Sobrante, CA 94803. Main number is (510) 262-0500. This non-profit offers many of the same programs as the Salvation Army indicated above, including free School Clothing, Tutoring Services, Camps, Utility Service Payment Assistance, Christmas Support, coats and shoes and more. A thrift store is on site too.

St Paul's Episcopal Church - CARE Center - Trinity Center

They help homeless people. Clothes, a drop in center, showers, free hygiene stuff and other items are offered.

Love of my Life Ministries - Advocacy for the Poor Inc.

They help with job clothes. The Costra Costa County charity helps women, migrants, and teens get professional clothes for work or an interview. Boots, slacks, purses, briefcases, suits and other free professional attire is offered by the charity.

St Joan of Arc Parish Office

Contra Costa County and Bay area free furniture bank
The Make it Home charity help low income families, the underemployed, elderly, and people that are struggling. A bunch of free stuff may be given out. Furniture ranges from appliances to kitchen tables, beds, car seats, medical equipment, lamps, nightstands and much more. The goods will be gently used, but free to qualified families. They work with multiple agencies, including Seneca Family of Agencies, Social Services, Compass Family Services, Bridges of Hope, Bay Legal Services, and many others. Homeless Resource Closet

Homeless people will get free clothes as well as small furniture items if/when they move into a home in Contra Costa County. There will be socks, underwear, coats, sneakers, boots, jeans, and other goods. Kids of the homeless will get free backpacks or school supply items too.

They only cover emergency - disaster situations. For people impacted by a disaster, such as a fire, flood, or other event, may be able to get help such as furniture, vouchers for clothing, shelter and more. Couches, beds, tables, appliances, and more is given out. The location partners with other agencies and government programs in Contra Costs and California too.
