Clay, Jackson, Rockcastle County assistance programs.

Low income and struggling families can get emergency help. Dozens of charities, churches, government assistance programs and non-profits listed below in counties including Jackson and Clay provide grants, cash loans, or free items. Find resources that help pay utility bills, rent, or security deposits.

Or get free groceries, diapers, back to school supplies, or clothes from charities in Rockcastle and Jackson County area. There is also free debt counseling, Christmas gifts, money to pay for transportation services, and other financial aid programs. There are even resources such as payday or salary advance loans as a last resort.

Locate help for food, rent, and energy costs

TBRA - Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program is available in all counties. It can provide everything from shelter to funds for first months rent or moving costs. There is support for tenants facing eviction in the form of one time rent or utility bill help. Other support will be credit counseling, information on low income apartments, and help for domestic violence survivors. Call 859-624-2046.

The Daniel Boone Community Action Agency is the primary organization that residents of these counties should contact. The non-profit has a number of staff members on site that will meet with applicants and direct them to emergency financial assistance or some other type of resource. In total, DBCAA is involved with, or can administer, as many as 20 programs.

They deal with everything from grants for paying utility bills or rent to disbursing free food and security deposit help from ESG. Some clients in the Clay or Jackson County KY area may be given loans too (based on the applicants paycheck) as a last resort, when all other options are used up, and learn more on payday loans.

The organization, which has offices in Clay, Rockcastle, and other counties, is part of the statewide network. The goal is to help the working poor overcome barriers to employment and self-sufficiency. So job training is available as well as the following.

Financial aid is available from three different primary services. They include Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for paying utility and cooling bills. The TBRA (Tenant Based Rental Assistance) can offer low income families a subsidy as a form of housing payment. The third option, Emergency Solutions Grant, is for stopping homelessness. There may be money for paying back rent, deposits, or overdue water or electric bills.

 

 

 

There are a few other resources available from Daniel Boone for families in Rockcastle and other counties. They include vouchers to help pay for Child Care costs, in particular for single parents or those families in job training. Transportation can be arranged for a job interview or for a senior to get to a medical appointment. Lastly, the federal funded Weatherization program will help homeowners or tenants save money on their energy bills. Another option are the various job training and placement services, even including such assistance programs as getting pad to watch TV or videos at home.

For more information on any of these programs, the agency can be reached at (606) 598-5127. They have a few main offices in the region. While all programs are limited, there may be emergency assistance for the less fortunate. Or if someone does not qualify, then referrals are given.

There are Salvation Army social service and thrift store centers in central Kentucky. Each location varies, but they generally offer a few different services. One key one is homeless prevention. They have referrals to government grants for rent or home repairs. The non-profit will also provide gently used clothing, food, and loans for certain bills.

Other aid includes homeless shelters, case management, a thrift store, Christmas toys from Angel Tree, hot meals, and back to school supplies. The Christian, faith based groups helps the low income, less fortunate, and needy in various ways. More on Salvation Army Kentucky assistance programs.

Jackson County Food Bank partners with churches and other charity sites, even including in nearby counties such as Rockcastle. Together they offer groceries or serve free meals, including at the holidays. The main pantry is at Hwy. 421, McKee, KY 40447. Dial (606) 287-8336.

God’s Outreach is another agency that can offer food, personal hygiene items, groceries, and more. Before the school year starts up there may be free clothes as well as backpacks or back to school supplies for students. The main number is (859) 623-2220. Dial the non-profit for hours.

Health First Community Health Center in Clay County is a clinic. They do accept the low income and under insured. The center may have Women’s Health Services, Counseling/Mental Health Programs, Primary Care, Pediatric Services, OB/GYN, Immunizations, and Medicaid Application Assistance. Some free basic dental care may be given to adults or children as well. Some fees may be due from patients.

Other health care services are available too. Too many people struggle to pay for medications or their health care needs. There is financial aid as well as advice in the region, including Clay and Jackson County. Everything from free community clinics to charity care is offered. Even find financial help to pay medical bills.
