Salvation Army Vancouver and Clark County Washington assistance programs.

The Salvation Army in Clark County WA as well as city of Vancouver provides help to struggling individuals from all walks of life. There is assistance (such as rent, free food, holiday meals or school supplies, advice, etc.) for senior citizens, veterans, single moms, and youth in the region. The type of help provided by the charity varies throughout the year, but clients may be given both financial aid and access to basic needs for addressing the crisis.

Many families and individuals need help when they are transitioning to a new job. Others, such as single parents, need to provide free toys or meals for their families at Christmas or Thanksgiving. Or they need school supplies or free backpacks. No matter the need, social workers from the Salvation Army Family Services unit in Clark County Washington will try to provide some form of help.

Housing and financial aid from Vancouver Salvation Army

There are several resources for solving housing needs and assisting the homeless. When the person has no other place to turn to, a shelter can be used. There are local centers in Clark County for a number of situations, including veterans, the mentally or physically disabled, as well as youth. If a women is homeless, there is also a regional assessment program from the Salvation Army for this situation, and it refers them to long-term, permanent housing. Or even find a list of rental assistance resources for single moms.

Emergency financial aid is offered from time to time. The money is limited and is mostly raised from the sale of goods at the thrift store (see below). The non-profit may be able to provide crisis assistance for expenses such as paying rent or energy bills to keep the family housed. Other support may be provided as well from time to time from their social services unit.

In some cases, if the food pantry can't meet what the client needs, then emergency vouchers may be given for a box of groceries. Or parents with newborns that can't buy baby formula may be given help as well. The Salvation Army tries to feed children and the working poor in the Vancouver region.

Seasonal and youth services

Salvation Army Clark County programs are for children as well. Whether it is a teenager or someone even younger, social workers can refer the person to summer days or direct low income parents to affordable day care providers. There is even information on subsidized child care vouchers that the federal government will provide.

Christmas, school, and holiday assistance is arranged from time to time. The programs do operate year round from the Clark County Washington thrift store, but during key times of the year (such as October-December) some clients may be given free goods.

The Salvation Army staff in the region use donations and money raised from the Red Kettle to provide these services. There are collection efforts held in local churches, businesses, and even events organized at senior centers or apartment communities. People donate toys, clothing, boxes of food, school supplies, and other goods in order to help less fortunate children. These services are often referred to as the Angel Tree or Back to School shopping.

The Salvation Army in Clark County also focuses case management on adults. This is often done using volunteers as well as partners ships with other groups. These include local credit counseling agencies, WIA job placement centers, and schools. Sessions held range from English-as-a-Second-Language classes for Spanish speakers to sessions on high-school diploma equivalency classes (GEDs). Or find a good type of entry level job. Other Salvation Army case management coordinates computer classes or budgeting.

The Thrift Store is where people can shop to save money. There are items for everyday use, such as winter jackets, clothing, appliances, and school uniforms, as well as vintage goods. The Family Store sells gently used items, but volunteers will try to ensure they are in decent condition. While they will be used, the savings experienced can really add up over time.
