Find help with paying bills, expenses, and grant programs

If you are struggling in today’s weak economy, Housing Solutions for the Southwest (HS) is the leading organization in the area that provides access to many assistance programs, they offer counseling and advice, and other forms of aid to Archuleta County residents.

Housing Counseling - Professionals offer support and counseling in many areas, including foreclosure prevention, information on government housing programs, legal advice, landlord / tenant mediation services, and more. Also, find addition state mortgage assistance programs.

Emergency Homeless Prevention - If you are facing an eviction, this program provides emergency housing funds and cash grants for low to moderate income families in the Town of Pagosa Springs and the five county region that the organization supports. Apply for aid if you are facing homelessness due to a temporary interruption in income or some other type of emergency, such as a job loss or medical emergency. These grants and funds are also available to help pay rent, mortgage and even utility and heating bills. Security deposits and first months rent can also be paid for.

Rental Assistance - They administer the Housing Choice Voucher program, which is a long term rental assistance program. Any low income family or individual  may be eligible for aid. Apply early as funding is limited.

Weatherization Support - Reduce you energy bill from Weatherization Services. These are designed to help people save on their energy bills and conserve energy. This program and the services are available to anyone who is qualified for the federal government LEAP assistance, and it is also available for people who qualify according to annual household income guidelines. Emergency services and crisis grants are also available through the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP).

Archuleta County Human Services is the main organization in the county for state, federal, and government benefits and assistance. Each program has its own eligibility requirements. Energy bill assistance for the low income may be provided by LEAP. This program may assist with paying part of your winter heating costs. Other government benefits can include food stamps or TANF cash assistance. Applications for child care may be processed too. San Juan Basin Health Department, Women, Infants, & Children program may offer free food, baby formula, nutrition counseling, and access to basic health services.
