Allegheny County free Christmas and holiday programs.
Many charities in Allegheny County are involved in spreading the holiday joy to families that are struggling. For those that qualify for help, the programs administered range from free Christmas gifts and food to presents and toys for children. There are Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners or turkeys, free Toys for Tots, and the Angel Tree in Pittsburgh among other holiday resources. All resources are limited and usually are served first come or served, and some non-profits also have a waiting list.
The items passed out can include boxes of food, meals, groceries, and small toys or presents. Some children may also receive books, games, or full sets of clothing. Volunteers from the county as well as the city of Pittsburgh are relied upon to help collect and assemble gifts. There are also special holiday services from programs such as Adopt a Family in the area.
