Rental assistance in Marathon County.

Charity organizations and government offices serve as a contact point for emergency rental assistance programs in the Marathon County. They help low income families as well as residents facing a short term hardship. Some of the agencies also focus on providing rent or security deposit help for a certain situation, such as grants for veterans or housing for the disabled or senior citizens that live in the Wausau area. The staff from these outreach organizations work to ensure that everyone has their basic human needs met. This includes a place to live (shelter) and will therefore also ensure they have some assistance paying rent in a crisis. A focus is on single moms and low income seniors.

Marathon County Veterans Service Office

Assistance is for veterans, their spouses, children, or survivors. Get help in apply for Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits; grants for paying rent, insurance, burial and death benefits, and other aid. They also direct clients to emergency temporary assistance, such as for rental payment or utility bill assistance on a case by case basis.

North Central Community Action Program

The non-profit operates the Emergency Housing Assistance Funds (EHAF). Cash grants may provide housing assistance to Marathon County families that would otherwise be evicted. There may be security deposit help for victims of abuse, money for back rent, and transitional housing for the disabled.

They also partner with low income tenants and seniors that are in rent arrears or living in unsafe housing. The free legal aid can assist with housing needs unsafe homes, or free landlord-tenant mediation.

Limited rental assistance is for veterans only. There is money for gas, housing, back rent, and more. Staff also help move veterans into a new home or provide no-interest loans to pay rent that can be issued from credit unions.

Emergency support is for active duty military personnel only. Everything from travel to car repairs, funds to pay security deposits or rent, and other help is available. If an applicant is not in the military, then referrals are given to other emergency rent assistance programs.
