Information on assistance, financial grants, and other aid programs

Richmond Indiana based Open Arms Ministries is one of the local faith based church / clearing house that offers residents a host of local services for those families and individuals in need of help. The agency will attempt to put local people with needs in touch with the local available services, such as charities, non-profits, and government programs. Open Arms will work with clients and others as well as churches in an attempt to find possible resources to meet needs of those who are struggling. The maximum assistance possible to help with bills, rent, and other needs client is $250. A client may return to seek addition aid after a 6 month period. (765) 962-9100

Rent and utility assistance

Town Trustees - They only help residents of the town itself. Each Wayne County Indiana family that is in a crisis can call for assistance. There may be clothing, free food, and medications or health care services. Grants can also help with paying housing costs, including rent, utility bills or security deposits as well. Call a local office to seek more information and to apply.

Salvation Army of Richmond may be able to provide emergency rent or utility bill assistance using a grant or loan. All applicants need an appointment and also need to have contacted their township Trustee for help first. Any funds are very limited,

There is also a food pantry available for Wayne County families, case management services, and a soup kitchen. The address is 707 South A Street in Richmond, IN 47374. The soup kitchen may also have holiday (including Thanksgiving or Christmas meals). Call (765) 966-7791.

There is also a helpline for struggling residents of Wayne County. Information is provided on many different assistance programs, including resources for housing and utility and/or heating bills. Referrals can be provided to the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) as well as weatherization. Help from this program is available for heating oil, natural gas, propane, kerosene, wood, and electricity bills. A crisis energy program is also offered.

 

 

 

The helpline can give information on emergency rent / housing. Financial help may be provided from the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), which is funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Many Wayne County agencies work to stop evictions.

Local agencies as well as churches can also assist with Head Start enrollment as well as job training, and they have referrals to security deposit programs, shelters, and benefits such as food stamps in Wayne County. Community Food Pantry - Interfaith Mission Center Inc. - This center will provide qualified individuals with 3 days of free, emergency food if the applicant has a referral from a local church, Salvation army, or a town Trustees office. Dial (765) 962-1145

Credit, debt, and foreclosure assistance programs

Momentive Consumer Credit Counseling, which can be reached at (866) 722-9248, runs a helpline that is sponsored by the federal government HUD and Fannie Mae. The non-profit agency provides information and guidance to homeowners who either own or considering purchasing a home and have questions about their mortgage documents. It can help people deal with debt that may be causing them to fall behind on housing payments. Consumer Credit Counseling - Richmond is another option. They provide Debt Management by negotiating lower mortgage and credit card payments with creditors, banks, and lenders. They also provide free housing counseling for people who default on mortgage, who are facing a foreclosure, or have questions on a bankruptcy filing.
