The food banks are there to support families that are facing a short term emergency. They are not to be relied on for long term assistance. If a resident needs that type of support, then they should not turn to a pantry but rather apply for benefits such as SNAP food stamps. One other items to note is that a number of the locations in Iroquois County, such as Saint Vincent de Paul, provide other, non-monetary aid such as clothes, school supplies or free Christmas/Thanksgiving meals.
