Catholic Charities assistance programs in Lucas County Ohio region.

While the focus of Catholic Charities is on providing support to prevent future emergencies from occurring, the agency will also have some short term financial assistance, food, and other services for those in the midst of a crisis. The Toledo Catholic Charity center covers a wide region, including the counties of Lucas, Richland, Sandusky, and other areas. Case managers will teach the skills needed to manage the crisis, and help people apply for aid.

The H.O.P.E. Pantry offers food. Catholic Charities and its partner churches and non-profits distribute thousands of pounds of food needy families and individuals every month. They can also help facilitate or direct people to Christmas and Thanksgiving meal services in the greater Toledo Ohio region. The assistance they provide addresses a significant need for food assistance in the local community. They do their best to work with food banks, pantries and centers to meet this growing need.

Meals are also offered by Helping Hands of St. Louis Ohio. This service is dedicated to serving God's people by providing a free hot nutritious meal to those in need. Guidance, caring, and other support is provided too. The agency will strive to acknowledge the dignity of each person and family in need, and they will to foster an atmosphere of fellowship and courtesy in order to provide support in times of material or financial need.

Community Emergency Services include funds for basic needs such as emergency mortgage and rent assistance. Families in Huron and Lucas County, as well as neighboring areas, may qualify for help. Some of what can be provided by Community Emergency Services includes funds for paying rent or housing if someone is faced with homelessness. Medical and prescription expense assistance may be offered. Groceries and a food pantry may be available, as well as LifeSkills Workshop for services such as credit counseling and budgeting.

La Posada is for Spanish speaking individuals and families in the region, and it offers temporary housing to homeless families. Some of the services and assistance offered directly by La Posada includes personal hygiene products, food, clothing, shelter, and intensive case management. The objective is to empower people to achieve a greater degree of self sufficiency as well as independent housing.

 

 

 

 

Miriam House can provide Lucas County Ohio families with shelter and short term housing. While in this safe Catholic Charities environment, residents and clients of the agency will be provided with educational opportunities, life skill training, referrals to other services and non-profits,, and case management services. The focus is to help the residents identify issues that have contributed to their homelessness, help them find a job, and to really develop the life skills needed to become self-sufficient in order to end the cycle of poverty.

A similar resource is the Family Emergency Guidance Services. This can prevents homelessness through education, employment and empowerment of Toledo Ohio individuals and families. Family Emergency Guidance Services includes Life and Home Management Educational Workshops, emergency rent/mortgage assistance, housing information and referral resources. In addition, Catholic Charities Community Emergency Services provides support for low income families and individuals experiencing problems with maintaining suitable homes or managing finances.

A LifeSkills workshop will provide people with information on credit repair, budgeting, identity theft, payday lending alternatives and other useful information to aid in making informed decision about financial issues. These are some of the keys skills required to become sufficient.
