South Davidson Family Resource Center emergency assistance.

People from the community can make an appointment at South Davidson Family Resource Center. The staff, after an assessment, will direct income qualified families to both basic needs such as food or clothing to financial aid for bills and rental expenses. The Denton based Center is staffed with experienced volunteers as well as full time personnel who provide referrals to supportive services as well as shelters.

Funding from the agency comes from federal government grants as well as organizations like the United Way. There are also other donations from the general public. Any contribution will be put to good use and will make a difference in the lives of a struggling family. Whether the primary wager earner is underemployed, or the family is faced by a one time crisis, assistance may be offered.

South Davidson Family Resource Center holiday programs and food assistance

The Christmas Program, such as Adopt a Family, helps residents provide free holiday presents for their family. Toys, gifts, games, clothing, and more may be passed out. There is an emphasis on assisting children, or maybe a homebound individual such as a senior citizen. But others can qualify as well.

Families that meet low income levels may be adopted for the holidays. Or some people from Denton or Lexington will be selected by South Davidson Family Resource Center to shop in the Holiday store. One other big benefit of the Holiday Program is it also also provides generous businesses, organizations, individuals and churches an opportunity to give back to the less fortunate.

In partnership with groups such as Second Harvest Food Bank of NW North Carolina and Loews, the Weekend Backpack program will give children and students meals. There is free food given out each month so the child from Davidson County has some form of nutrition over the weekend or a holiday break.

Nonperishable grocery items as well as fresh fruits/vegetable are passed out from food banks. The center was created to supplement a client's own resources. The intent is to offer clients a limited amount of free food and help provide nourishing meals.

Not only may groceries be passed out, but eligible families can receive a voucher for other basic needs. There is a local South Davidson Family Resource Center Thrift Store that can provide people free clothing, winter coats, shoes, backpacks for school, linens, and home items. Also, families faced by a disaster may be given free furniture. All of these services are intended to help people get back on their feet.

The SDFRC Clothing Closet has gently used or new clothing for people of all ages, sizes, and income. The locations is operated by volunteers who can help clients find what they need. Whether it is a paid of shoes or an item for a new baby, low priced or free clothing may be available.

Emergency support in South Davidson from SDFRC

The Resource Center staff work to provide the homeless and people facing poverty with a safe and nurturing environment. Not only can applicants meet with a qualified social worker to get referrals, but the location will also direct people to soup kitchens, direct individuals to shelter, and give them use the telephone as well as access to the food bank indicated above.

After a intake and assessment process, South Davidson Family Resource Center will direct residents to cash grants. Any money paid out is for people experiencing financial hardships. There may be funds for paying security deposits as a form of rapid re-housing, one-time rental and mortgage assistance, utility bill assistance and short-term shelter.

Any financial help is very limited. It will consider income and whether the family can pay their future bills or rent on their own. So the applicant needs to be working or have a form of income. This is a hand up service and not intended to be some form of entitlement.
