Water bill assistance in San Antonio.

Residents of San Antonio Texas can receive help with paying their water bills in a crisis situation. A program known as Project Agua was created by the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) to help individuals and families who are struggling. The service provides financial help, payment plans, and other forms of assistance in Bexar County.

It can offer both mid to long term assistance to customers for paying their water bills or it can assist people who are facing a shut off of their service. The goal is to stop a disconnection.

Funds and cash assistance is being made available to help low-income SAWS residential ratepayers, with a focus on those customers who are disabled, elderly, facing a medical emergency. Another priority from the water company in Bexar County is on helping families who have young children.

The service, which is really a Payment Assistance Program, has helped thousands of customers since it was created about 10 years ago. Hundreds of customers who have had difficulty in paying their water bills, and who were faced with a shut off of their service, have been able to receive financial assistance. As a result, they were able to keep their service on during a difficult period in their lives.

San Antonio Water System does have various eligibility requirements that need to be met. Those qualifications include the customer must be a SAWS residential customer and they need to qualify through DCI for participation in the program. As indicated, priority will be given to seniors, elderly, and people with a medical emergency and families living in poverty with children.

Over the years this program, as well as various other payment plans that SAWS may negotiate, has helped thousands of families with paying their water bills. At its core the program is a donation service, and funds are made possible only by individual contributions from San Antonio Water System customers and local businesses. The City of San Antonio, Department of Community Initiatives (DCI) both accepts applications for Project Agua as well as they administers available funds and cash grants.

The Project Agua program is only available from donations from generous customers, and your help is always appreciated. If you want to provide assistance to people in the local San Antonio Texas community so they can keep their water service connected, your tax deductible contribution is greatly appreciated. The donation will help people keep water flowing to their household during difficult times, and most of the funds flow to families with children or senior citizens. It's simple to contribute to the program, and no contribution is too small to help.

The only thing you need to do is look for the donation box on the return portion of your monthly SAWS bill. Then check this box on the form. The next step is to just simply add the amount you'd like to contribute to your monthly SAWS bill payment and indicate that extra amount in the space provided.

All donations made will be tax deductible, and all of the funds go to pay the water bills of less fortunate households. The additional amount you pay to San Antonio Water System will be credited to your account and that additional amount will automatically go to Project Agua. Donations will then go to qualified families in the community.
