Samaritan Community Center financial assistance programs in Arkansas.

One of the leading charities for the low income in Northwest Arkansas is Samaritan Community Center. What they administer is considered by many to be vital to the local community. Whether it is a box of food from their Market or clothing from the Samaritan Shops, resources are offered across Benton, Washington, Madison and Carroll County.

The services from the Samaritan Community Center is a critical resource. Many people rely on them for care advocacy and case management services. All of their programs are run across Northwest Arkansas and the aid is for residents who are experiencing emotional, economic and spiritual distress.

The Samaritan Care Program’s social workers offer encouragement. They are also a source of detailed information and referrals to fellow community service agencies. Staff can also help with the completion of paperwork for government assistance programs in counties such as Benton.

Free food or hot meals

If you're looking for a free soup kitchen that serves unhealthy food or items such as stale bread, the client won't find it at the Samaritan Cafés. The charity goes above and beyond to serve meals are freshly prepared on site in our Health Department-certified kitchens. The food will also be served restaurant-style by happy, smiling volunteers, who often take the time to sit down for a friendly visit with familiar faces.

Also, while the non-profit might serve a hot, delicious soup from time to time, it will always be accompanied by other food items. Those can range from salads, baked chicken breasts, rolls, milk, and cake or pastries for dessert.

The service depends on partners. Several area restaurants, known as our Harvest Partners, generously donate food on a weekly basis, including Longhorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Mimi's Cafe, Outback Steak House, Red Lobster, Bonefish Grill in Benton, and Carrabba's Italian Grill in Rogers;. Many other restaurants also donate surplus goods to the soup kitchen as well as food pantry.Café hours are Springdale Café, which is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 10:30 am to 12:30 pm as well as the Rogers Café, and this site is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The Samaritan Community Center Markets, which is the same as a pantry, furnish a two or three-day supply of food and personal care items. Other goods are also offered. This may be resale shop vouchers for children’s clothing, to those in need. Visits are limited to one per 30 day period. Anyone that needs help is a client, and they are not required to show identification or documentation of need.

In addition to the food or grocery packages, the markets also offer a friendly ear, words of encouragement. There is even information about other community service resources throughout Northwest Arkansas, including counties of Madison and Benton.

The Snackpacks for Kids Program provides help to thousands of children from low income families in 120 Northwest Arkansas schools. The Samaritan Community Center also supports the local Head Start programs. Children are given small white shopping bags filled with a number of healthy snacks to take home over the weekends.

While items in the snackpacks vary depending on donations, the bags typically contain granola bars, pudding cups, cheese crackers, soy butter, Easy Mac cups, fruit chews, cereal cups (SnackPacks for Kids is a peanut-free program), and fruit cups. The Snackpacks from the non-profit are distributed every Friday during the school year, and are also available during the summer through school lunch programs. Other distribution is at church lunch programs in Madison or Washington, cafes, and other public venues.

Free medical or dental care from Samaritan Center

The Samaritan Health Clinic serves uninsured Northwest Arkansas adults. The patient can have no proof of income or documentation of need required. Clinic services include the following:

A medical center has basic medical care for uninsured adults suffering from flu, rashes, colds and other minor ailments or illnesses. The locations does not provide emergency, pain management, laboratory, or X-ray services.

Dental care is also from a clinic. The charity has added a part-time on-staff dentist. This person has allowed the Samaritan Center to increase the number and availability of daytime appointments. Available dental services include X-rays, extractions, exams, and cleanings, as well as restorative and emergency care.

Resale shop vouchers that are redeemable for clothing, school supplies, household items, or furniture are also available through this program. Some free furniture, such as beds or household supplies, may be offered. The faith based charity will distribute vouchers only to those experiencing critical emergencies, such as people that need to exit domestic abuse situations as well as house fires. School supplies are from the BackPacks for Kids Day. This is a way for the community to kick off the school year. Kids at all locations, that meet qualifications from Samaritan Community Center, are furnished with free onsite haircuts, backpacks, clothing or free haircut vouchers. Food is also offered for a free lunch and drinks. The event from the non-profit also includes fun activity booths hosted by Walmart vendors, local churches and businesses.

SCC’s Samaritan Shops stock gently used household items, donated clothing and furniture. Proceeds from sales are used to provide financial support for the Samaritan Community Centers in Springdale as well as the city of Rogers. Vouchers for Samaritan Shop merchandise are available from social workers, food pantries, and partnering agencies that include the NWA Children's Shelter, Bread of Life and the Red Cross.
