Find details on the St. Louis Homeless Services hotline below.

The goal is to (1) both reduce homelessness and (2) ideally help people find a place to live. The housing and rental assistance hotline in Saint Louis Missouri will direct people to mortgage, utility, or rent assistance programs as well as short term, emergency lodging. Individuals who are currently homeless or who have been evicted can also learn about short term transitional housing units and/or shelters as well.

Help provided by the St. Louis Housing Helpline:

The Saint Louis Homeless Services Program can refer individuals who are experiencing a housing crisis to government programs or local non-profit agencies. This was established to serve as one source for people to go to for free information on solutions to their hardship. Referrals and housing assistance is also provided for those who are currently homeless.

The free hotline that was put into place is a centralized referral and intake system and can be reached at 314-802-5444. After making the call and requesting rent assistance or free temporary housing, the applicant will be put into contact with an intake specialist. They will explore different options that the individual may have available to them in St. Louis County or the city.

If someone is facing imminent eviction then the individual will be referred to emergency housing assistance programs. Funds can help pay your rent, mortgage, or even energy bills. The crisis Hotline was created by the City of Saint Louis, local non-profit organizations as well as Saint Louis County.

To learn about this and other resources anywhere across Saint Louis County, dial the hotline at 314-802-5444. The toll free number is 1-866-802-7155.

Details of the Saint Louis Homeless Services Program

A few different components are offered by the program. For low income families and individuals in need of cash assistance for paying immediate costs, the Saint Louis County government contracts with social service agencies and local charities. These organizations administer mortgage, rent and utility grants.

Case management and self sufficiency is also offered, in particular workshops to teach landlord/tenant responsibilities; conduct budgeting classes; resources to identify available, affordable low income housing; and follow-up with families to prevent a future housing crisis. This component of the Homeless Services program is to ensure long term housing stability is achieved.

Shelters and transitional housing units are also offered as part of this St. Louis service. After calling the hotline, and finding a housing unit or homeless shelter to stay in, clients will work with a case manager who assists them with identification of their underlying issues. They will help them address both financial and any recurring housing problems they have, and they will work with individuals to plan a course of action that will return them to both permanent housing and independence.

In addition, any individual living in a shelter is eligible for some basic health care for free, including mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence assessment. A number of other referral services are also provided to these individuals. Children and teenagers who may be living in a shelter are also eligible for both transportation services as well as educational assessment services.

Services for homeless veterans
