Free school supplies in city and county of Sacramento.

Several charities and other organizations in Sacramento (both the city and county) give out school supplies to struggling families. There are local events that give out backpacks, books, tablets, clothes and a wide variety of school supplies to students from pre-school to high school. Find details on school supply assistance programs in the Sacramento area below.

Students from grades K-12 can get free supplies, based on their grade and what is offered. There are also programs that give out free classroom supplies to teachers in Sacramento County public schools. Everything from Chromebooks to school backpacks, highlighters, clothes, notebooks and more will be provided to low-income families in Sacramento County. There are also free clothing closets in Sacramento that can be an option.

Family Resource Centers
There are several of these non-profits that provide a number of social services to low-income families or single parents. One annual program is the free back to school supply giveaways. The individual centers try to help students get clothes, school supplies, books and more for the year.

Free back to school supply events – giveaways take place one day per year. There are backpacks full of supplies based on grade. Or get free personal toiletries for kids, sneakers, shoes, books, and more.

Robertson Community Center

The charity gives free sneakers, shoes, boots and footwear to kids under the age of 18. This also includes shoes / sneakers for the school year too.

Sacramento Helping Hands Foundation

The foundation works with businesses, private donors and more to help children from low-income parents. There can be gift cards, free school backpacks, jackets and more. In some cases free tech products like a Chromebook or laptop are given to kids for online learning.

Volunteers of America

The program is known as Operation Backpack. It gives out school supplies to students from kindergarten to high school age in Sacramento County. What is given out depends on grade, such as elementary school kids may be crayons or a lunchbox while high school calculators, protractors and more. They also help the unemployed, homeless and veterans with kids in Sacramento.

Each year the non-profit provides students of all grades with free school supplies. There will be lunchboxes, highlighters, pens, pencils, and many other goods given out to students in Sacramento County schools.

Destiny Christian Church

The name of the program is Love Our City Backpack Giveaway. They give free clothes, school backpacks and arrange other support too – even including haircuts or wellness checks.

 

 

 

The Yolo County Children’s Alliance

Free school backpacks are given out, and they are full of supplies. There will be calculators, pens, highlighters, markers and more. Or get a notebook, dry erasers and other goods.

Salvation Army
