Free clothing closets, furniture and school supplies in Rochester and Monroe County New York.

Residents who need assistance in Monroe County and Rochester can receive free items, such as clothes, school supplies, diapers or maybe even furniture from a clothing closet or a free, charitable furniture bank. Centers are located across the region and they are committed to assisting low income families with meeting their basic needs.

The locations have an extensive number of items offered to the less fortunate. Qualified individuals can receive household goods, winter coats, boots, and more. Locations may distribute vouchers to qualified Rochester individuals so that they can purchase the goods at no cost to them. Other clothing closets may distribute free Christmas assistance (such as toys and gifts for children), suits and dresses for work, furniture for a new apartment and in general support the less fortunate in the community.

The primary locations in Monroe County are below. Not only may free clothes for work, everyday wear, or school uniforms be given out, but many of the clothing closets have staff that provide referrals to financial aid and more. Free baby supplies are also offered at many local charities. The goal is to help low income families with basic needs and get the financial help they need.

The location administers a number of resources. For example, the center distributes new or second hand clothing, linens, kitchenware, children’s books, toys and even games. The non-profit also accepts, and really relies on donations of these goods. Other items that may be provided, if they are in stock, include wash cloths, pots & pans, winter outerwear for all ages, shoes, and other clothing items.

Basic needs and emergency assistance is offered. This includes a holiday program for registered clients, clothing, prescription assistance, back to school supplies for students, and summer lunches. Other support includes free clothing and referrals for mental health. There may be some basic furniture, such as a bed or couch.

Salvation Army Family stores and social services
Several locations are in Monroe County. Each has a combination of financial aid and household or basic supplies. Whether it is a free back to school supply and uniform giveaway or birthday or Christmas toys for kids, household cleaning supplies, or even energy bill help, the assistance is wide ranging.
