Most of Lake County agencies that are listed below specialize in administering grants to help with rent or a deposit. In addition, case management, counseling, and referrals are offered to families in Lake County.

North Township Trustee, Hammond Office is for residents only. Address is 5947 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, Indiana 46320. Phone number - (219) 932-2530. General assistance, which can include housing, energy, and rent, is available for town residents. Some clients may be issued a low interest loan for their rent or other bills.

Lake County Community Economic Development Department focuses on home buying, repairs, and government grants. East Chicago Office (North Township Trustee's Office) is another local government agency. Welfare, emergency (immediate) rental assistance, food, medical, and more is offered from 2105 Broadway, East Chicago, IN 46312. Northwest Indiana Community Action Agency has an office in Lake County. Using government grants, there may be emergency rent help or funds for utility bills. Section 8 housing choice vouchers can help pay rent, based on the tenants income. The Lake County Indiana Public Housing Authorities (PHA) administer them. There may also be home buying services, section 8 for paying a mortgage or monthly rent payments. The Lake County PHA also operate income based apartments, as well as self-sufficiency programs.

This resource can provide rent help, hotel or motel vouchers, funds for moving costs or security deposits and other support.
