Rent assistance in Lorain County.

Get help with paying rent and housing costs from a number of different charities, churches and government programs in Lorain County Ohio. Programs can help with paying bills such as security deposits, moving costs, and also provide emergency rent help. The places to apply to for assistance in Lorain County are below.

Many of the financial assistance programs administered are able to help people meet short term needs. In addition to providing funds or grant money to qualified low-income families, the Lorain County agencies will also provide information. There are even long term programs, including rent subsidized housing from section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers or no wait list apartment. Housing Services Program/  ORD Center Residential Services

While some housing resources are offered, including transitional homes or limited funding for moving or first months rent, the services are targeted.

 

 

 

Lorain County Department of Job and Family Services

The county and state of Ohio gives immediate rental assistance from the Prevention, Retention, and Contingency program as well as cash assistance. Both of them may offer government rent relief and grant money to and housing costs, in an effort to stop homelessness. There is also TANF, welfare, job programs, and a number of other social services that can in effect help with housing needs of the low income.

Lorain County Veterans Service Commission

Eligible veterans and their immediate families who demonstrate a need for help can receive rent and/or mortgage assistance. Programs range from HUD- VASH to rent money from SSVF. Homeless veterans in Lorain County and those on verge of evictions can apply.

Lorain County Urban League

The non-profit arranges emergency housing assistance, foreclosure counseling, and direct cash assistance for helping with back rent. There may be loans for buying homes or support for minorities or immigrants, referrals to moving programs as well as legal aid, rent relief resources, and other programs for the disadvantaged.

Offers permanent housing for low income, and help in applying for government assistance. Programs administered here include section 8 housing vouchers for paying rent. Salvation Army Centers in Lorain County
The Christian charity administers a number of assistance and social service programs for unemployed, low income, and working poor Lorain County Ohio families. There is limited emergency rental assistance for people with eviction notices. Or get financial help with everything from paying mobile home lot rent and security deposits, up through applying for federal government programs such as section 8 vouchers.

Applicants need to be from the city and be facing eviction. Case management can also help residents, including seniors and single parents, find an affordable apartment and vouchers can help with ongoing rental expenses.
  • Salvation Army-Lagrange Service Unit. Location is 105 West Main Street, Lagrange, Ohio 44040. Phone - 440-355-4203. A homeless shelter, funds for utility bills, furniture, rent help and other social services are offered.

Neighborhood Alliance - Family Promise of Lorain County

Limited funds or cash loans can pay a portion of back rent as part of Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing. Applications are reviewed case by case, and priority is for families with a source of income. Money may also be used for a security deposit, first-last months rent, and other housing costs. Coordinates services for low-income persons in Oberlin, including housing and rent. The services administered provide direct financial assistance, referrals, and other support.

Lorain County Office On Aging

Limited funds for senior citizens and the elderly in the county. Money may be issued for rent, energy bills, and more to those facing homelessness.

St. Elizabeth Center

Avon Lake Community Resource Services

Using grants from the government, the non-profit may have emergency rent help for low income families. All funds are issued on a case by case basis, and loans may be issued in some cases for paying past due rental expenses. There is information on income based housing for the disabled, seniors, and others.

Lorain County HPRP is an eviction prevention program that has many parts, all of which assist with rent. Attorneys may offer free legal aid to stop evictions, there are free motel vouchers, and grants for paying rental arrears or energy bills among other components. Legal Aid - Lorain County Office

Free legal consultations for tenants with a pay or quite notice, and the goal is on stopping evictions. Lawyers can also arrange landlord-tenant mediation, assist with unsafe living conditions or apartments, and offer other housing assistance, including referrals to rent relief programs.

The Nakon Foundation

They only help people with breast cancer. Housing, rent, and financial assistance for breast cancer patients and their families. Case managers will work with patients on their housing needs. Note that applicants for help with rental costs need to have some form of diagnosis.

There is information on government grants to help pay rent or utility bills. Family Law (include eviction defense), shelter, and social services for the unemployed, single moms, and families in poverty. In rare cases, cash aid for rent or security/utility deposits is offered.

El Centro De Servicios Sociales
