Salvation Army assistance programs in Ouachita Parish.

The social services from the Ouachita Parish Salvation Army are limited. Clients from the City of Monroe LA and parish can apply for, or get referred too, everything from emergency rent or electric bill help to free groceries, a homeless shelter or gasoline vouchers. The Salvation Army also works with partners to help kids from low-income households in Ouachita Parish get Christmas toys or a Thanksgiving meal as well as school supplies for educational resources. The programs are often paid for by donations from the community, government grants, and the sale of goods at the thrift store. The assistance available will vary throughout the year based on many factors, however the faith based organization will try to provide support.

The goal it to provide counseling, support, and concern for all who are struggling. However the Monroe Louisiana center is limited in what can be provided as the demand is high. Some volunteers may deliver a meal to the senior. During that time frame, they will also check up on them to ensure things are going well and maybe share a laugh or smile. The Salvation Army can often help address loneliness at the same time as offering basic needs. Other support may be a free box fan for the summer months to help keep a room cool.
