Housing assistance programs help low income families, seniors, military families and disabled among others. If an applicant does not meet eligibility criteria, or if an agency is out of resources, then other forms of assistance for rental expenses can be coordinated. Department of Social Services
Temporary financial aid and grants can be used for rent, energy bills, and mortgages, among other expenses. They also support veterans, senior citizens and military personnel in the region. There is also information on veteran and military family resources from the government, whether grants for back rent or deposits, loans, job placement and more.

A focus of the financial aid for rental expenses is to stop homelessness in Onslow County.

The non-profit offers referrals to section 8 housing as well as security deposit help or rent subsidies to low income families. Any grants are combined with job training and placement into a more affordable home.

Military members, veterans, and their immediate family members in the Jacksonville NC area can get financial help, including for rent, utilities, housing, or mortgages. Hope Mission of Carteret County, Inc.

Programs include shelter as well as loans for housing expenses or back rent.

Mostly basic needs, such as low cost or free furniture, is offered at Richlands Community Outreach Thrift Shop. However in some cases emergency rent assistance or shelters can be offered.
