Emergency financial aid as well as free stuff is offered in Moore County from charities and non-profits. The FirstHealth Cares program is a local program that helps provide cheap or free prescription drugs and medicines for low and middle income residents in both Moore and Montgomery Counties North Carolina. There recently has been a significant donation to expand the offerings.

The plan assists residents who lack prescription drug coverage or who have no health insurance (including Medicaid or Medicare) and the people in need must meet financial qualifications, according to Ms. Leopper of First-Health Community Health Services.

The FirstHealth Cares program helps secure medication and drugs from pharmaceutical manufactures to treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension. The low income and poor in Moore County NC may get free help.

In total, the FirstHealth Cares program served over 900 patients and requested almost 7,000 medications over a one year timeframe, but the program will be expanded. In total, according to the average wholesale price from the pharmaceutical companies for the medicines provided, the group ended up saving $2.5 million for those who needed help. Moore Free Care Clinic is the leading community clinic in the region. The medical care they offer is primary care, preventive and specialty care to the low income and limited income people living in Moore County NC who either lack insurance or are are uninsured and can't afford access to health care. Upon completing the screening process for these low income, they can access medical care for prescription medication assistance, short term illness, check ups, minor injury, continuing care for ongoing illness, specialty care by referral, North Carolina dental assistance programs, and mental health care. Financial help for paying bills in Moore County North Carolina

The Salvation Army of Southern Pines ((910) 725-1054) runs assistance programs that can provide limited amounts of emergency financial assistance with paying for utilities, rent, and clothing expenses. They also offer free clothes, school supplies for students, groceries, shelter, and the Angel Tree Christmas gift and toy program. When it comes to financial aid, either loans or referrals may be offered too.

Rental assistance programs are offered by Community Services Block Grant Housing and Self-sufficiency Programs. The agency is based in Carthage NC. The main service, the housing program, can offer families and individuals 1st month rent or security deposit assistance, and the funds can be used to assist low to moderate income individuals with moving costs from substandard housing to standard housing. Other services and resources offered include the self-sufficiency program-budgeting, education, debt counseling, training and seminars, removal of barrier to self-sufficiency. (910) 947-5675

Community Action Agency of Moore, Salisbury, Rowan can help mostly in the form of referrals. Clients can learn about federal and state programs such as grants to pay a portion of rent from section 8 vouchers, food stamps applications, and WIC.

The organization may also have referrals to more local resources, such as food pantries or clinics that are located in the Carthage North Carolina area or nearby towns. Another Southern Pines non-profit agency is the Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care. They administer Emergency Assistance to the unemployed, working poor and low income families. Sandhills Community Action Program of Carthage NC ((910) 947-5675) offers the Head Start program, low income self-sufficiency, and can direct Moore County and Carthage individuals to rent assistance programs. Food banks and programs
