Get help from Monterey County Catholic Charities.
A key Catholic Charity resource in the Monterey region is the Family Supportive Services Program. Case managers can help people apply for services such as Cal Fresh, or Catholic Charities may have direct financial assistance for needs such as rent, food or utilities. The regions that are supported include Monterey, San Benio, Santa Cruz, and also San Louis County California.
The Family Supportive Services Program can help people and will provide emergency financial assistance for paying food, rent, utilities, and electric bills. The focus is on the working poor and low income. This resource also includes an Immigration and Citizenship Program, which offers support and assistance with naturalization, family petitions, and other immigration processes. The Catholic Charity Clinical Counseling Program offers individual and family-oriented therapy on an ability-to-pay basis. All of these emergency services are available without regard to the individual’s national origin, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
Other resources include, but are not limited to, direct financial aid with paying rental, security deposits, move-in and utility bill assistance. The agency can provide financial assistance to working poor, low-income, and homeless residents in all of the counties, including Monterey and San Luis. Office locations include Salinas, Seaside, Gonzalez, Soledad, and Greenfield.
Social workers offer everyone an intake protocol that strives for an understanding and relationship with the client on openness and compassion. They try to work with the individual towards self sufficiency. Sometimes this can include applying for public assistance or programs such as Cal Fresh, as the organization has an application process in place. All services are offered by appointment only, and a case manager will interview and work with each client and applicant.
A focus of the Family Supportive Services is on homeless prevention, rent, and housing assistance. Financial assistance can be provided to low-income residents who need funds to secure stable housing, or who may be facing imminent eviction. Receive assistance to prevent utilities shut-offs or a disconnection of your electricity. Most of the aid is for families with children, as they are most at risk. Funding for emergency food and shelter is limited, and a number of families and children live in poverty and need help. Unfortunately only a small number of applicants are able to be supported by Catholic Charities.
The Catholic Charity Christmas Angels program can give food, toys and gifts to families with children. The organization partners with other agencies and programs in Salinas, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Watsonville. It relies heavily on donations and contributions from members of the community, and people provide gifts and holiday cheer to families and children in the region.
The immigration and citizenship program can be reached at 831-422-0602. Most of this is offered as a fee service, which means that Catholic Charities can provide guidance, support, and assistance in helping people obtain permanent residence in the United States for a low cost fee from the client. The program will help those who wish to become citizens in our nation.
Catholic Charity Staff will try to ensure an extensive amount of assistance is offered to clients for any of their needs, which can include work authorization renewal, replacement of legal permanent cards, consultation, and applications for U.S. citizenship.
CalFresh Outreach is the state’s version of food stamps. It was created The Unites States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and it works with the California public aid department to provide matching funds and grants to non-profit agencies and local governments. Catholic Charities works to increase CalFresh enrollment, participation and retention rates in order to eliminate food insecurity and hunger in California and Monterey California. They try their best, in partnerships with state agencies, community based organizations and counties. All groups partner together to reach the working poor, senior citizens and eligible immigrants who have low CalFresh participation rates. They will try to remove barriers to enrollment through application assistance, education, follow-up assistance, and advocacy.
