Maine free food banks.
Find a listing of food banks, soup kitchens and free emergency food pantries that may be near you in Maine. These are run by non-profit organizations, charities or churches that are committed to providing assistance to people who need help. The items provided by each center will vary, however the support provided may include free food, groceries, meat, frozen items, and other forms of nutritional support.
Many of the pantries in Maine also pass out free personal hygiene supplies or toiletries. Or they serve Christmas, holiday, and Thanksgiving meals. Many unemployed and low income families from the greater Maine community rely on the centers and the generosity of their volunteers as well as donors.
While many of the programs and resources are focused on the low income and elderly, it is true that in general people facing a hardship can get help from a Maine food bank. Bags of groceries, hot meals, canned goods, and holiday supplies may be offered. In addition they can be a great resource to learn about other local charities and programs in the area that can help you meet other needs.
These free food banks are no your only option though. Find a free referral number at the bottom of this page. Many towns and counties have other programs and charities that support the needy. Ask the staff at a pantry for more information on other assistance programs that are located in various counties across Maine.
