Loudoun County and Leesburg Catholic Charities assistance programs.

Catholic Charities assists the low income, struggling, and less fortunate in Loudoun County and northern Virginia. There are a few main assistance programs offered. (1) Get short term, emergency financial help for bills, medical needs, utilities, rent, or housing. (2) A free food pantry provides canned groceries as well as free perishable food, including personal toiletries. Catholic Charities also (3) help immigrants, pregnant woman, single mothers, and the elderly in Loudon County with counseling, advice, and support.

There are a few churches that are part of the Loudoun County charity, with the main center in Leesburg. They help the poor and less fortunate regardless of age, religious, gender, or ethnicity – no discrimination. However funds, including financial assistance for bills, is limited. The charity relies on sales of good from the thrift store, donations, and volunteers (among other resources).

Catholic Charity free food and financial aid programs in Loudoun County

The Catholic Charity food pantry is focused on under-served individuals and families, children facing hunger, and isolated senior citizens among others. Clients of the program must therefore meet certain eligibility requirements to qualify, as the pantry has limited resources and is not just open for anyone to use. All applicants need to bring a present photo ID and Social Security cards for all family members.

The location will provide Loudon County families free food, fruits, vegetables, and other nutritional services. There may even be some produce from local community gardens. There may also be Dry & Canned Food, certain Meats that are affordable during the timeframe in question, Fresh Fruits or Vegetables. Seniors and kids, or people with chronic health issues, can have special Dietary Needs met too.

Or get free basic needs from the Catholic Charities in Leesburg. That may be items like diapers, feminine products, hygiene supplies, detergent and similar goods. These are “non-food” items for the low income.

 

 

 

The Emergency Fund from Catholic Charities in Leesburg and Loudoun County covers many needs. When possible, the charity offers less fortunate, vulnerable residents of Loudoun County offers one time only emergency help due to a financial crisis. Examples of the type of support offered includes the following.

  • Housing funds for paying rent.
  • Health care needs, including medical bills, medications or dental bills.
  • Transportation costs for an interview in Loudoun County and some qualifying work related expenses.
  • Funds to pay utility bills to either keep the power on or help low income families reconnect. There are also resources on other emergency utility bill assistance programs in Virginia.

With the exception of designated holidays, on most weekdays a volunteer takes calls from area social workers requesting financial help for their needy clients. The volunteer then approves requests based on Catholic Charities program criteria.

Catholic Charity guidance, case management, and immigration resources

Case management from Catholic Charities in Loudoun County helps individuals determined to break the cycle of poverty as well as homelessness. It is a multiple week project that provides transitional housing, food, information on federal government WIA job programs near you, and educational support. All of the services are intended to preserve the clients dignity and well-being while increasing their self-sufficiency. The end result is ideally the client gaining independence.

Much of the emergency financial help (see above) mandates this case management. As it is done to break any cycle of poverty. As there is no point in giving money to pay rent or other bills, if the Catholic Charities client has no ability to pay future living costs. Case management in Loudoun County can address this, with a focus on employment and living within means.

 

 

 

 

There are also various programs for immigrants in the county and/or northern Virginia. Catholic Charities is focused on helping with the transition, ranging from accessing housing to getting a green card or citizenship papers. Or drivers license or a work permit. There are low cost, affordable legal services from Loudoun County Catholic Charities or partners.
