Help with daily expenses, bills, rent and other services

If you need help dealing with every day expenses, the Torrington Catholic Charities offers services that will help promote self sufficiency of families and individuals. They may be able to provide some short term assistance for paying bills, debts, rent, and energy bills. They offer this help and try to ensure the respect and dignity of every individual is maintained in a manner that maximized human potential through offering advocacy and other direct services. 860/482-5558.

Another charity agency that provides low income assistance programs is the Torrington CT chapter of Fish Inc. The non-profit provides qualified people with access to regional assistance programs and offers resource and services to low-income as well as vulnerable individuals/families. Among the programs they offer is a free food pantry, they run a 35-bed emergency shelter, free clothing room, help people apply for Operation Fuel/Warm (which provides help with utility bills), offer Neighbor/FEMA assistance, Holiday Programs, and access to emergency prescription assistance. The Litchfield County Salvation Army, which is based in Winsted Connecticut, administers several assistance programs including those that provide basic needs. The center offers free food, debt assistance and counseling, heating and utility bill help. Other resources from the church including emergency shelter, fuel as well as rent assistance, medical vouchers, free holiday gifts and meals, and even summer camperships. Litchfield regional food banks - Struggling families can turn to their town social service office for an emergency box of groceries or other, non-profit run pantries. Based on factors such as income as well as number of household members, the locations may also serve Christmas or holiday meals, have baby formula, school supplies, and other items.
