Find where to get free food, meals, groceries, or non-financial aid in Lexington and Fayette County Kentucky. Get information on the various churches, food banks and emergency pantries near you, listed below, to call for assistance today. A number of centers are committed to helping the needy in the community, no matter what their needs are or their background. There is also a phone number for more free food programs at the bottom of the page.

The assistance available from each location will vary. Many of the food banks and churches in the Lexington Kentucky area run programs for low-income families, the working poor, and struggling households. They can get free groceries, personal hygiene supplies, baby formula, and perishable items for free or at reduced prices. Other locations in the Lexington area will distribute free groceries, serve a meal, or provide food to the low income as needed.

In addition, the food banks may also be able to provide clothing, holiday meals, household products, and personal hygiene items. They can also be a great place to contact to learn about various government programs, whether they are run by the state of Kentucky (such as SNAP food stamps) or the federal government. Receive referrals and assistance in applying to these government programs. Or if a location is not near where the family lives, then they can find other food pantries near them to call upon.

Salvation Army of Central KY - Emergency Services
There are two main offices in the region, and they are listed below. Programs they administer include a food pantry, thrift store, clothing closet, and soup kitchen. There are also free Christmas meals and gifts from the Angel Tree program as well as Thanksgiving dinners. Limited amounts of financial help may be available for rent and electric bills too.

Fayette County Community Action
The non-profit has various assistance programs. One is emergency food. There are also applications to grants,  Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Summer Meals, USDA breakfast or lunch programs and more. Continue with assistance from Lexington KY community action.

It is not open on a walk-in basis. Anyone seeking help needs to have a referral. Resources offered range from the Backpack Program to a Kid’s Cafe to Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Food banks that operate by referrals only
These three charities will provide assistance to those families with a referral. It can be obtained from a social service office in Fayette County, schools, or food stamp intake sites. The pantry locations are Saint Luke United Methodist Church is at 2351 Alumni Drive; Broadway Christian Church - 187 North Broadway Street; or Cambridge Drive Food Pantry is open for referrals only at 1902 Cambridge Drive.

The goal is to help families become self-sufficient. So short term aid may be offered, such as free food, meals and financial help from the pantry. At the same time, clients will access longer term programs, such as career counseling, education, and budgeting skills.
