Help with rent in Hudson County and Jersey City.

Get rental as well as housing assistance in Jersey City and Hudson County New Jersey. A number of non-profit community agencies, government programs, and charities can provide tenants faced with a hardship or crisis emergency financial help. Get grants or loans to help pay rent, security deposits, moving costs and in general to help in stopping an eviction. Call one of the greater Jersey City organizations below for information as well as financial assistance.

There are other resources offered as well, such as free legal aid to renters in housing court or section 8 vouchers. If you are struggling and need help paying rent, security deposits, or are faced with an eviction, do not hesitate to call or stop by one of the Hudson County organizations below. Some provide direct cash assistance that the low income or single parents can use to pay for housing.

Others, in particular the housing authorities, can provide rental assistance from solutions such as section 8 housing voucher programs, free motel rooms, or low income housing. Every year thousands of families in the Jersey City region receive some form of rent assistance from one or more of the agencies and programs referenced below. All have limited funds. Where to find security deposit and rental assistance  in Jersey City area

The United Way and Catholic Charities of Hudson County – Together these two agencies partner with local churches and non-profits. Catholic Charities can refer you to these agencies for one time rental help or other housing support. Financial assistance will be offered for only the prevention of homelessness (those who have an eviction notice or are at-risk of utility disconnections or homelessness due to unpaid rent). Let’s Celebrate, Inc. – Only serves Jersey City residents. Funds can provide financial assistance and cash grants to help pay the rent for those at risk of becoming homeless. The address is 46-48 Fairview Ave. Jersey City, NJ, (201) 433-5438

North Hudson Community Action Council – Emergency rental assistance to prevent evictions and rapid re-housing assistance to help people get into a new apartment. The poverty fighting organization may aos provide funds for security deposits, moving expenses, and first month’s rent. All of this is combined with budgeting, employment, and a focus on long-term housing stability. There are based at 800 31st St, Union City, NJ 07087. Call (201) 866-9320.

 

 

 

  • They have other locations as well. A second office of Community Action Corporation of North Hudson is in Jersey City. They offer information on emergency rental assistance. They have details on government grants or referrals to non-profits that may have loans. Struggling tenants, the disabled, migrants or others can get funds for a partial rent or security deposit fee. Get referrals to low income housing and apartments.
    Another program offered is the Supportive Services for Veteran Families, or SSVF. This is for veteran and their families. Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF)

Government grants for paying rental expenses may be available for low income families, seniors, or the disabled who are on the verge of eviction. They also help single parents and women fleeing DV in Hudson County.

Metrowest Jewish Family Services - The non-profit may have referrals to emergency assistance for rent, deposits, and other needs. In some cases, zero percent interest rate loans. A major focus is on the elderly in Jersey City who need affordable, safe homes or apartments to live in. Contact them for emergency rental, funds for security deposits and money for housing costs. Hudson County Housing Resource Center is based at 574 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ, 07306, but supports the entire county. Call (201) 795 - 5615. The non-profit addresses housing issues. This includes landlord / tenant mediation, unsafe homes or apartments, discrimination, and help with section 8 regulations.

Legal Services of New Jersey, working with the Northeast NJ branch, offers free legal aid to prevent evictions. Pro-bono as well as free volunteer lawyers can provide advice on security deposits, referrals, and other support to tenants. Salvation Army social services – The Christian faith based church has funds to distribute as part of the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing (HPRP) federal government funded program. There is also homeless shelters, money for utility bills, job programs, and other housing solutions. The homeless can also get free motel or hotel vouchers as well as transitional housing. Town of Harrison Housing Authority addresses HUD programs. The address is 788 Harrison Ave, Harrison, NJ, 07029. Coordinates housing for low income, disabled, and seniors for Harrison residents. Hoboken Rent Control - Housing Authority

Everything from public housing to section 8, home buying programs and more  is offered.

Rapid rehousing for the homeless as well as grants to prevent tenant evictions are available. The rental assistance is paid for using the ESG program. NJ Department of Community Affairs

This program can provide, for eligible applicants, short term rental assistance, back rent (maximum 3 months), and mortgage assistance (referred to Camden office). This is part of the homeless prevention and rapid rehousing program in Hudson County NJ.

Programs for women and families with children. A major focus is on women faining violence. Whether a safe place to live, some money for rent or utilities or free furniture, or free legal advice, help is offered. They also support women facing trafficking issues as well as migrants.

Garden State community Development - Jersey City Episcopal Community Development Corporation (JCECDC) – Offers case management for homeless individuals. There are also low cost loans or grants for Home Purchase opportunities for Middle-Income First-Time Home buyers who meet qualifications.
