Indianapolis area free Christmas and holiday programs.

There are many agencies and churches in the greater Indianapolis area that provide free assistance during the holidays to low income families, seniors, and children. The non-profits may have items ranging from toys to meals and baskets of food. There is also assistance for the homebound, including senior citizens and the disabled in the Marion County and Indianapolis area.

The sites that provide help at Christmas are located in many nearby towns and counties. They rely on donations from the community in order to give free gifts to children or to serve meals. The programs are available in a wide region, including the counties of Hamilton, Elkhart, Marion, Boone, Parke, Shelby, Vermillion, Clay, Hendricks, Madison and many others.

The exact items offered by each center will vary, and the applications are normally processed on a first come and served basis. Families, in particular those with children, should apply for assistance in the early fall months in order to have a chance to receive a toy or gift. Volunteers from the community may also help seniors apply, and bring them a free meal during Thanksgiving or Christmastime.

Christmas programs from Salvation Army
There are several centers in the region. The charity operates programs such as Angel Tree or Adopt a Family, and these are focused on children from low income families. They may receive free clothes, toys, games, or other items. Meals are provided, and some Salvation Army centers in Indianapolis may offer funds for bills or access to food pantries for seasonal items.
