Free fans and air conditioner programs in Horry County SC.

Several charity organizations in Horry County try to help low income, seniors, and families with young kids beat the heat, and they do this by giving out free air conditioners, portable fans and even financial help. There are also government programs that help people in or near poverty fix an air conditioner or get a new one and find details on free air conditioner programs near you in Horry County.

During the hot and humid summer, utility and electric cooling bill assistance is one of the services that are in highest demand. So free fan giveaways from a local church or charity as well as other aid, including LIHEAP, may be able to help meet that need for an A/C unit or other cooling device.

Help with an air conditioner from government programs

Money to pay for a small air conditioner or a fan to help keep a house cool is available from LIHEAP as well as weatherization. While the program operates year round, LIHEAP in SC will also help mitigate energy emergencies during extreme weather, which is the colling component. Seniors over the age of 60, including many retirees in Horry County, as well as families (or single moms) with young kids get priority.

The SC Office of Economic Opportunity partners with community action to administer it. The summer colling LIHEAP, which covers air conditioners and grants to pay for AC costs, is offered when funding is available and extreme weather takes place. The WEOC community action agency administers it and learn more on help from the Horry County community action.

Charity programs in the Conway and Myrtle Beach area for a free air conditioner

The Salvation Army will provide various forms of emergency help, including financial or free gently used AC units or window fans, to struggling people in Myrtle Beach, Conway, and across Horry County. There is also money to help families pay a portion of their utility bill.

  • Or if that can’t be done, they will try to provide a free fan to help keep people cool during the summer. The faith based non-profit will distribute to the elderly and the needy whatever dollars or fans are received and are on hand. Most of the assistance programs work off of donations from the community, including individuals and local businesses that provide a fan or small portable AC unit that the charity then giveaway away.

The main office of the Salvation Army Social Service Office is located at 1413 2nd Ave, Conway, SC 29526. Individuals can stop by there for information and access to all of their resources, including emergency rent assistance, case management, food, and more. Phone (843) 488-2769.

Other non-profits try to help the vulnerable during the summer and give out free air conditioner units, help the low-income pay for emergency repairs or provide one or more fans to help circulate the air. These local Horry County charities all have limited resources but do their best to help.
